Whats Happening In Baseball?

The 2020 Season

The 2020 Major League Baseball season is fast approaching. The last few months have seen a lot of movement, with some teams loading up for a World Series run, while others are looking to rebuild. Let’s take a look at some of the major storylines heading into the 2020 season.

The Coronavirus Pandemic

The 2020 Major League Baseball season is scheduled to begin on March 26, 2020, and end on September 27, 2020. All 30 teams are scheduled to play 162 games each. The regular season was originally supposed to start on March 28, but was pushed back due to the coronavirus pandemic. Spring training games were also suspended.

The virus caused several changes to the MLB schedule. The most notable change is that the season will be shortened from 162 games to 60. The playoffs will also be expanded from ten teams to sixteen. These changes were made in order to complete the season by the end of September so that the World Series could be played before October.

Another change is that all teams will play their games in their respective home stadiums. There will be no “neutral site” games played this year. This is a safety measure to help prevent the spread of the virus.

It remains to be seen how well these changes will work and if they will be enough to prevent the spread of the virus among players and fans. However, baseball is one of America’s favorite pastimes, and many are hopeful that the season will provide some much-needed normalcy during these unprecedented times.

The 60-game Season

The COVID-19 pandemic has left Major League Baseball with some big decisions to make for the 2020 season. The most significant of those decisions is how many games to play.

The league originally planned to play a full 162-game season, but the pandemic forced a delay to the start of the season. With time running out, MLB has decided to play a 60-game season.

This shortened season will present some unique challenges for teams. The most obvious challenge is that players will have to get in shape quickly after several months away from the diamond. But there are other challenges as well, such as how teams will handle player rotations and how they will manage their rosters.

The 60-game season will also have an impact on the playoff race. In a normal season, each team plays nearly 10 times as many games, so a hot streak can carry a team a long way. But in a 60-game season, every game is important and a losing streak can be devastating. This puts added pressure on managers and players alike.

The 2020 MLB season is shaping up to be unlike any other in history. But with so much uncertainty, one thing is for sure: it should be an exciting year of baseball.

The Playoffs

So the playoffs are here. And as always, there are some dominant teams and some Cinderella stories. The Houston Astros are looking to continue their reign as World Series champions, while the Los Angeles Dodgers are looking to finally get over the hump. Let’s take a look at some of the other teams in the mix.

The Wild Card Format

The MLB playoff format currently consists of a one-game Wild Card Playoff between the two Wild Card teams in each league. The winner of each Wild Card game advances to the Division Series to play the team with the best record in their respective league that didn’t win their division. The Division Series is a best-of-five series.

The 2014 MLB playoff format will consist of eight teams: four from the American League and four from the National League. Each league’s regular season champion (i.e., the team with the best record in that league) will receive a bye to the League Championship Series (LCS). The other two division winners in each league will meet in the other ALDS and NLDS, respectively. These series are also best-of-five.

The two winners of each ALDS and NLDS advance to their respective LCS. The LCS are best-of-seven series played in a 2–3–2format (the lower seed hosts Games 1, 2, 6, and 7 while the higher seed hosts Games 3, 4, and 5).

The winner of each LCS advances to the World Series which is also a best-of-seven series played in a 2–3–2 format with Games 1, 2, 6, and 7 at the lower seed’s ballpark while Games 3, 4 et 5 at thé higher see’s ballpark.

The AL and NL Bracket

As we move closer to the end of the baseball season, teams are starting to clinch their spot in the playoffs. The American League (AL) and National League (NL) each have three divisional winners and two wild card teams. The divisional winners are seeded first through third based on their records, and the wild card teams are seeded fourth and fifth.

In the AL, the first seed is currently held by the Houston Astros, who have clinched their division. The second seed is held by the New York Yankees, who have also clinched their division. The third seed is currently held by the Minnesota Twins, but they have not yet clinched their division. The fourth seed is currently held by the Tampa Bay Rays, and the fifth seed is currently held by the Oakland Athletics.

In the NL, the first seed is currently held by the Los Angeles Dodgers, who have clinched their division. The second seed is held by the Atlanta Braves, who have also clinched their division. The third seed is currently held by the Chicago Cubs, but they have not yet clinched their division. The fourth seed is currently held by the Milwaukee Brewers, and the fifth seed is currently held by the Washington Nationals.

The playoffs will begin on October 1st with two wild card games: one in each league. The winner of each wild card game will advance to play one of the three divisional winners in a best-of-five series during October 2nd-6th . These series are known as the AL and NL Division Series (ALDS and NLDS).
