The longest field goal in NFL history was kicked by Matt Prater of the Denver Broncos in 2013. The kick was 64 yards and it helped the Broncos beat the Tennessee Titans.

The Current Record Holder

In 2013, Denver Broncos kicker Matt Prater set the NFL record for the longest field goal with a 64-yarder against the Tennessee Titans.

That record may not stand for long, however, as a number of talented kickers have come into the league in recent years who have the leg strength to give Prater a run for his money.

The Previous Record Holder

The previous record holder for the longest field goal in NFL history was Morten Andersen, who kicked a 62-yarder for the New Orleans Saints in 1998.

The First Field Goal in NFL History

On November 6, 1922, the first field goal in NFL history was kicked by Paddy Driscoll of the Chicago Cardinals. The kick was made from 45 yards away and went through the uprights to give the Cardinals a 3-0 lead in their game against the Detroit Lions. Driscoll went on to kick two more field goals in the game, as the Cardinals won by a score of 9-6.
