The Pacific Division is one of the three divisions of the Western Conference in the National Basketball Association (NBA). The division consists of five teams from California and one team from Oregon.
As of the 2019-20 season, the Pacific Division has been home to some of the NBA’s most successful teams. The Golden State Warriors have won five NBA championships since moving to the West Coast in 1962, while the Los Angeles Lakers have won a league-leading 16 NBA championships, most recently in 2010. Other successful teams in the division include the Portland Trail Blazers and the Sacramento Kings.
Despite their success, no team in the Pacific Division has been able to win an NBA championship since 2014, when the Warriors defeated the Kings in seven games.
NBA Finals
The 2020 NBA Finals will be the championship series of the National Basketball Association (NBA)’s 2019–20 season and the conclusion of the season’s playoffs. The Eastern Conference champion Miami Heat will play the Western Conference champion Los Angeles Lakers in a best-of-seven series. The Lakers hold home court advantage as the western conference team with the better regular season record.
Eastern Conference vs. Western Conference
The NBA Finals is the championship series of the National Basketball Association (NBA). The Eastern and Western conference champions play a best-of-seven game series to determine the league champion. The winning team of the series receives the Larry O’Brien Championship Trophy.
The NBA Finals was first established in 1947, when the Basketball Association of America (BAA) and the National Basketball League (NBL) merged to create the NBA. The first Finals was played between the Philadelphia Warriors and the Chicago Stags, with the Warriors winning four games to one. Since 1947, the NBA Finals has been played every year except for 1949, when a lockout cancelled the entire season.
The Eastern Conference has won thirty-eight championships, while the Western Conference has won thirty-two. The Boston Celtics have appeared in more Finals than any other team in history, with 21 appearances and 17 championships. The Los Angeles Lakers have appeared in 17 Finals, winning 16 times.
