Regular Season
The regular season is the time when the NFL’s best teams face off against each other to see who will advance to the playoffs. The regular season schedule is released in April, and the schedule typically consists of 16 game days, each featuring a different matchup.
Playoffs
The NFL playoffs are a single-elimination tournament held after the regular season to determine the NFL champion. As of 2020, it consists of 14 teams: the seven winners of each of the NFL’s two conferences, the American Football Conference (AFC) and the National Football Conference (NFC), and four wild card teams. Six teams from each conference qualify for the playoffs; this is up one team from 2010. The four divisional winners and two wild card teams from each conference advance to their respective conference’s playoff tournaments. Wild card weekend (the first round of playoffs) is usually held the weekend after all divisional games have been played, but starting in 2020 will be expanded to include a third wildcard team and will be held two weekends after all divisional games have been played. The two divisional winners advance to face each other in their respective conference’s championship game, whose winner then advances to Super Bowl LIV, scheduled for February 2, 2020 at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida.
Super Bowl
