What’s the Worst Team in the NFL?
Contents
We take a look at the worst team in the NFL and how they got to this point.
The Cleveland Browns
The Cleveland Browns have had a tough few years. They’ve gone through a lot of changes, and they haven’t had much success. They’re currently on a losing streak, and they don’t seem to be improving. Let’s take a look at why the Cleveland Browns are the worst team in the NFL.
Their Record
The Cleveland Browns have been around since 1946. In their 74 years of existence, they have had just two winning seasons. They have never made it to the Super Bowl, and they have never even won a playoff game. In fact, they are the only team in NFL history to lose 10 games or more in 17 different seasons.
They are often referred to as the worst team in the NFL, and it’s not hard to see why.
Their History
The Browns were a charter member of the All-America Football Conference (AAFC) when it was founded in 1946. The Browns dominated the AAFC, compiling a 47–4–3 record in the four seasons the league existed. When the AAFC folded after the 1949 season, Cleveland had appeared in every AAFC championship game, winning three times. The Browns then joined the National Football League (NFL) as part of the 1950 merger between the NFL and AAFC. They spent most of their time since in relative obscurity, but did make three playoff appearances and one Pro Bowl berth during that time. Through most of their first 50 years in existence, they were one of three NFL teams that failed to record a single winning season (1960), along with the expansion New Orleans Saints and Pittsburgh Steelers; this led to their being nicknamed as “the Factory of Sadness”.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have been the worst team in the NFL for the past few years. They have a terrible record and their fans are fed up. The coaching staff is a joke and the players are not good enough. The only bright spot on the team is wide receiver Mike Evans, but even he can’t do it all by himself.
Their Record
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have the worst record in the NFL. They have only won two games and have lost fourteen.
Their History
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are a professional American football franchise based in Tampa, Florida. The Buccaneers compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member club of the league’s National Football Conference (NFC) South division. Along with the Seattle Seahawks, the team joined the NFL in 1976 as an expansion team. The Bucs played their first season in the American Football Conference (AFC) West division as part of an NFL realignment plan that placed every AFC team except for the then-defending Super Bowl champion Pittsburgh Steelers in the newly created AFC Central. After the season, the club switched conferences with the Seahawks and became a member of the NFC West. Within those two years, they won their first division championship and posted their first winning record, 10–6. They were one of three NFC teams that expansion year that had a winning record along with eventual Super Bowl XVI champion San Francisco 49ers and New Orleans Saints.
In 1979, Tampa Bay captured their first NFC Championship Game with a convincing 33–14 victory over the Los Angeles Rams at Tampa Stadium on January 6, 1980. The following week, they lost to the Oakland Raiders in Super Bowl XVIII, 38–9. Quarterback Doug Williams threw for 263 yards and helped lead Tampa Bay’s only touchdown drive that day; wide receiver Morris Owens caught 5 passes for 98 yards and also ran for eight yards on a reverse play. Williams would go on to be named Super Bowl MVP after passing for 340 yards and four touchdowns against Washington Redskins in Super Bowl XXII just two years later. Under head coach Jon Gruden, who became head coach in 2002 after being traded from Oakland Raiders along with two first-round draft selections for four high draft picks and $8 million cash,[1][2] Tampa Bay reached their second Super Bowl appearance after defeating Philadelphia Eagles 27–10 in NFC Championship game during Gruden’s first year; however they were again defeated by eventual champions Oakland Raiders 48-21 in Super Bowl XXXVII.[3]
The San Francisco 49ers
Their Record
The 49ers have not had a winning season since 2013, when they went 8-8. In the past three seasons, they have gone 2-14, 5-11, and 6-10. This year, they are 1-7.
Their History
The San Francisco 49ers are a professional American football team located in the San Francisco Bay Area. They compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member of the league’s National Football Conference (NFC) West division. The team plays its home games at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California, located 38 miles (61 kilometers) southeast of San Francisco in the heart of Silicon Valley. Since 1988, the 49ers have been headquartered in Santa Clara.
The team was founded in 1946 as a charter member of the All-America Football Conference (AAFC) and joined the NFL in 1949 after the AAFC merged with the NFL. The 49ers were the first major league professional sports franchise based in San Francisco. The name “49ers” comes from the prospectors who arrived in Northern California during the 1849 Gold Rush. The team is legally and corporately registered as the San Francisco Forty Niners, Ltd., and is owned by Denise DeBartolo York and John York. The head coach is Kyle Shanahan.
