What’s the Worst Team in the NBA?
Contents
The Worst Team in the NBA is the team that finishes with the worst record in the league. This year, that team is the Milwaukee Bucks.
Sacramento Kings
The Sacramento Kings are the worst team in the NBA. They have the worst record in the league and are currently on a ten game losing streak. They have no hope of making the playoffs and their only hope is to get the number one pick in the draft.
Incompetent management
The Sacramento Kings are the worst team in the NBA. They have incompetent management, a bad coach, and no star players. The Kings are a mess, and it’s all because of their incompetent management.
The Kings’ owner, Vivek Ranadivé, is a good businessman, but he knows nothing about basketball. He’s made a number of bad decisions that have set the franchise back years. He fired the team’s popular head coach, Mike Malone, after just one season. He then hired George Karl, who was coming off a disappointing season with the Denver Nuggets. Karl was a good coach in his prime, but he’s well past that now.
Ranadivé also made the boneheaded decision to trade away DeMarcus Cousins, one of the best centers in the NBA, for pennies on the dollar. Cousins is now thriving with the New Orleans Pelicans, while the Kings are stuck with an overpaid and underperforming center in Kosta Koufos.
The Kings’ incompetence extends to their front office as well. General manager Vlade Divac has done a terrible job of building a competitive roster. He’s made some good trades, but he’s also made some awful signings. His biggest mistake was signing power forward Marvin Bagley III to a max contract extension before he had even played a game for the team. Bagley is a talented player, but he’s not worth $100 million.
The Sacramento Kings are a laughingstock of an NBA franchise. They have no direction and no hope for the future. It’s all because of their incompetent management.
Lack of young talent
The Kings are in a tough spot. They don’t have a ton of young talent and they’re stuck in the middle of the rebuilding process. They have some good players, but they’re not great. They’re not bad enough to get a high draft pick, but they’re not good enough to make the playoffs.
Their best players are De’Aaron Fox and Buddy Hield. Fox is a talented young point guard, but he’s still developing and learning how to play in the NBA. Hield is a good shooter, but he’s not much else. He’s a decent player, but he’s not a superstar.
The rest of the Kings roster is made up of role players and journeymen. They don’t have any true stars, and they don’t have any real building blocks for the future.
The Kings are in danger of being stuck in NBA purgatory for years to come. They’re not good enough to compete for a championship, but they’re also not bad enough to get high draft picks. Unless they can find a way to add some young talent, it’s going to be tough for them to take the next step forward.
Terrible coaching
The team has had several bad coaching hires in recent years, including George Karl and Luke Walton. The Kings have also been involved in several controversies, including the firing of head coach Mike Malone midway through the 2014-15 season.
New York Knicks
Knicks fans have been through a lot lately. First, the team traded away their star player, Kristaps Porzingis. Then, they fired their head coach, David Fizdale. To make matters worse, the Knicks have the worst record in the NBA. Knicks fans are hoping that the team will turn things around soon, but they may have to wait a while.
Incompetent management
Incompetent management has been the Knicks’ downfall for years. From owner James Dolan’s hands-off approach to the front office, to the revolving door of coaches and executives, the Knicks have failed to build a consistent winner.
The Knicks have made some headway in recent years, hiring a competent GM in Scott Perry and bringing in a star player in Kristaps Porzingis. But they’ve been held back by the same old problems. Dolan still meddles in basketball decisions, and the team has been hamstrung by bad contracts (like those of Carmelo Anthony and Joakim Noah).
Until the Knicks can get their act together off the court, they’re going to continue to be one of the worst teams in the NBA.
Lack of young talent
Although the Knicks have made some offseason moves to try and improve their team, they are still lacking in young talent. With an aging Carmelo Anthony and Derrick Rose, the Knicks don’t have many players that can carry the team for years to come. Kristaps Porzingis is a talented young player, but he is still developing and needs more help from his teammates. The Knicks also don’t have much depth on their roster, which could be an issue if injuries start to pile up.
Terrible coaching
Most basketball experts would say that the New York Knicks are currently the worst team in the NBA. They have a record of 10-45, and they are on pace to have one of the worst seasons in NBA history. The main reason for their struggles is terrible coaching.
Knicks head coach David Fizdale has no idea how to fix the team’s defensive problems, and he has made some strange decisions with his lineup choices. For example, he has been starting journeyman shooting guard Courtney Lee over young star Kevin Knox. Lee is a good player, but he is not the future of the franchise. Knox is only 19 years old, and he has shown flashes of potential. It makes no sense to bench him in favor of an older player who is not part of the team’s long-term plans.
Fizdale’s poor coaching has led to mounting losses, and it does not appear that things will get better any time soon. The Knicks are currently on track to finish with one of the worst records in NBA history, and there is no end in sight to their struggles.
Los Angeles Lakers
The Los Angeles Lakers are the worst team in the NBA. They have a record of 21-61 and are currently on a five-game losing streak. They are also the only team in the league with a negative point differential.
Incompetent management
It’s been six years since the Lakers last won an NBA championship, and in that time, they’ve gone through two head coaches, a front office overhaul, and numerous player personnel changes. The one constant has been noodle-armed shooting guard Kobe Bryant, who’s now in his 20th season with the team.
Lakers fans had high hopes for the 2015–16 season after the team signed point guard Steve Nash and center Dwight Howard in a splashy offseason makeover. But things quickly unraveled, as Nash missed most of the season with injuries and Howard was a shell of his former self. The team finished with a franchise-worst 17–65 record, prompting the firing of head coach Byron Scott.
The 2016–17 season was more of the same, as the Lakers finished last in the Western Conference with a 26–56 record. In April 2017, they were passed by the Philadelphia 76ers for having the worst record in the league, ensuring that they would have no worse than a 4% chance at landing the #1 pick in the draft lottery.
At this point, it’s clear that Lakers management is incompetent. They have no clear plan for rebuilding the team, and their decision-making has been disastrous. The only bright spot is that they have young players like Julius Randle and Brandon Ingram who could blossom into stars if they’re given a chance to flourish. But unless things change quickly, it looks like the Lakers will be stuck in NBA purgatory for years to come.
Lack of young talent
The Lakers have very few young, promising players. In fact, most of their best players are over the age of 30. This lack of young talent means that the team is not likely to improve in the near future, and could even get worse.
Terrible coaching
Under coach Luke Walton, the Lakers have gone 35-47 since he took over prior to the 2016-17 season. In his first year, the team was young and rebuilding, but expectations were higher last season. The Lakers are currently in 11th place in the Western Conference standings with a 28-29 record.
