The 2021 NHL playoffs are scheduled to begin on April 8, 2021 and will end on June 6, 2021.

The 2020-21 NHL Season

The NHL regular season is set to begin on January 1st, 2021 and will end on May 8th, 2021. The Stanley Cup playoffs will begin on May 11th and will end on June 27th, 2021. This year’s playoffs will have a new format with the top four teams in each division playing each other in a best-of-seven series.

The regular season

The NHL regular season is 82 games long, and it usually runs from early October to early April. The league is divided into two conferences, the Eastern Conference and the Western Conference, and each conference is further divided into two divisions.

In the 2020-21 season, the Eastern Conference will have the Atlantic Division and the Metropolitan Division, while the Western Conference will have the Central Division and the Pacific Division. Each team will play every other team in its conference twice, and each team in the other conference once.

The playoffs

The Stanley Cup is the championship trophy of the National Hockey League (NHL). It is older than the NHL itself, dating back to 1893, when it was donated by Governor General of Canada Lord Stanley of Preston. The Stanley Cup playoffs are a best-of-seven elimination tournament among 16 teams that have qualified for the playoffs. The playoffs begin in mid-April and end in late May or early June, with the Stanley Cup Finals held in June.

The Conference Finals

The Conference Finals of the 2021 Stanley Cup Playoffs will begin on Saturday, May 15, with four teams remaining in contention for the Stanley Cup.

In the East, the Tampa Bay Lightning will face off against the New York Islanders. The Islanders surprised many by taking down the Pittsburgh Penguins in Round 1 and then sweeping the Florida Panthers in Round 2. The Lightning had a much easier time in their first two rounds, defeating the Columbus Blue Jackets and then sweeping the Carolina Hurricanes.

The West will see the Colorado Avalanche take on the Vegas Golden Knights. The Avalanche swept both the St. Louis Blues and the Los Angeles Kings to reach the conference finals while Vegas took down the Minnesota Wild and then stunned the top-seeded Edmonton Oilers in Round 2.

The conference finals are a best-of-seven series, with all games being played at a neutral site. The first two games will be held in Tampa, Florida while games 3 and 4 will be played in Dallas, Texas. If necessary, games 5 through 7 will be back in Tampa.

The winner of each conference final will advance to the Stanley Cup Finals where they will play for hockey’s ultimate prize.

The Semifinals

The semifinals of the 2021 Stanley Cup playoffs are set, with the Tampa Bay Lightning, Washington Capitals, Colorado Avalanche and New York Islanders advancing to the next round. The Lightning and Capitals will face off in one semifinal series, while the Avalanche and Islanders will meet in the other.
