When Are The Tennis Grand Slams?

The four Grand Slam tennis tournaments are the most important annual events in the sport. They are the Australian Open, the French Open, Wimbledon, and the US Open.

The Grand Slams

The Grand Slams are the four most important annual tennis events. They comprise the Australian Open, the French Open, Wimbledon, and the US Open.

The Australian Open

The first Grand Slam of the year is the Australian Open, held in Melbourne at the end of January/beginning of February. The tournament was first played in 1905 and was known as the Australasian Championships until 1927. It was then held in December until 1977 when it was moved to its current January slot. It is played on hard courts. The current men’s singles champion is Novak Djokovic, who has won seven times, and the women’s singles champion is Naomi Osaka, who has won twice.

The French Open

The French Open (officially the Tournoi de Roland-Garros)[1] is a major tennis tournament held over two weeks at the Stade Roland-Garros in Paris, France, beginning in late May. It is the second of the Grand Slam tournaments on the annual tennis calendar and the only one held on clay. The French Open is currently managed by the Fédération Française de Tennis.

Unlike Wimbledon, (and the Australian Open to a much lesser extent), Roland Garros has been very reluctant to artificial lights and weather protection systems; only three matches were played under artificial light during its entire history (in 2009), all three being matches suspended from play on the previous day because of rain.

In 1891 the Championship was first held outside Paris, at Racing Club de France’s annexe in Saint-Cloud. It was reserved to french players and was called “French Club Members’ Championship”. In 1925 it opened to international players for first time, therefore drawing top international stars like Suzanne Lenglen.

Wimbledon

Wimbledon is the oldest and most prestigious tennis tournament in the world, played on the grass courts at the All England Club in Wimbledon, London.

The Wimbledon tournament was first held in 1877, and since then has been played every year except during World Wars I and II. It is one of the four annual Grand Slam tennis tournaments, the others being the French Open, the US Open and the Australian Open.

Wimbledon is a major sporting event on the global calendar, and is broadcast to millions of people around the world. It attracts the biggest names in tennis, as well as a large number of celebrity fans.

The Wimbledon tournament is also notable for its strict dress code – players must wear all-white clothing, and clothing that does not conform to this code is not allowed on court.

The US Open

The United States Open Tennis Championships is a hard court tennis tournament. The tournament is the modern version of one of the oldest tennis championships in the world, the U.S. National Championship, for which men’s singles was first played in 1881.

This Grand Slam tournament is held annually in August and September, coinciding with the end of the clay court season, and before the start of the long outdoor carpet court season. Since 1987, it has been played on acrylic hard courts at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows–Corona Park, Queens, New York City.

The US Open is organized by a non-profit organization called the United States Tennis Association (USTA). Net proceeds from ticket sales, television contracts, sponsorships, and merchandise go to supporting grassroots tennis programs.

When Are The Grand Slams?

The tennis grand slam tournaments are the four most important annual tennis events. They offer the most ranking points, prize money, public and media attention, the greatest strength and size of field, and greater number of best of sets for men. The Grand Slam calendar consists of the Australian Open in mid-January, the French Open in May and June, Wimbledon in June and July, and the US Open in August and September.

The Australian Open

The Australian Open is held every year in the last two weeks of January. It is played at Melbourne Park, which is located in the Yarra River precinct in Melbourne, Victoria. The tournament consists of singles, doubles and mixed doubles play. It is the first of the four Grand Slam tennis tournaments held each year, preceding the French Open, Wimbledon and the US Open.

The French Open

The French Open (officially the Internationaux de France) is a major tennis tournament held over two weeks between late May and early June at the Stade Roland Garros in Paris, France. The second of the four Grand Slam tournaments, it is preceded by the Australian Open and followed by Wimbledon.

Wimbledon

Wimbledon is the oldest and arguably most prestigious tennis tournament in the world, having been held since 1877. It is played on grass courts at the All England Club in Wimbledon, London, and is the only one of the four Grand Slam events still played on that surface.

The US Open

The US Open is the fourth and final tennis grand slam of the year. It is played on a hard court surface at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York. The tournament is held over two weeks in late August and early September, with the men’s singles and doubles finals taking place on the last Sunday.
