Contents
Welcome to my blog! Here, I’ll be discussing the recent return of Edge to WWE. I’ll be talking about when he made his return, what he’s been up to since then, and what we can expect from him in the future. Thanks for reading!
Edge’s First WWE Run
After being away from WWE for nearly a decade, Edge made his return to the company at the 2020 Royal Rumble. He had last been seen in WWE in 2011, when he was forced to retire due to a neck injury. Edge’s return was a huge surprise to fans, and it was clear that he still had a lot of love for the business.
Debut
Edge made his WWE debut in the summer of 1996. He quickly became a fan favorite with his high-flying, hardcore style of wrestling. He won his first WWE Championship in 2001 and went on to win a total of 11 WWE titles during his first run with the company. Edge also won the Royal Rumble in 2010 and was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2012.
World Heavyweight Champion
Edge’s first WWE run came to an end in 2011 when he was forced to retire due to a neck injury. He made his return in 2012 as the World Heavyweight Champion, defeating Alberto Del Rio to win the title. He held the title for 63 days before losing it to Dolph Ziggler at the WrestleMania 29 pre-show.
Rated-RKO
Edge made his return to WWE television on the November 20, 2006, episode of Raw, reuniting with longtime friend and tag team partner Christian, and the duo quickly recaptured the World Tag Team Championship from Rated-RKO (Edge’s storyline brother Randy Orton and Edge’s real life friend Kane) in a Tables match. This made Edge and Christian the only team to have held the WWE, WCW, TNA, and ECW tag team titles; they were also the first WWE Tag Team Champions of the new brand extension era.
Edge’s Second WWE Run
After a nine-year absence, Edge returned to WWE on the January 11, 2020 episode of SmackDown. This marked Edge’s first appearance on WWE programming since he had to retire in 2011 due to a neck injury. Edge’s return was one of the most shocking moments in recent WWE history.
Royal Rumble Return
In early 2020, rumors began to circulate that Edge was planning a return to WWE. These rumors were initially met with skepticism, as Edge had retired from in-ring competition in 2011 due to a neck injury. However, the rumors turned out to be true, and Edge made his return at the 2020 Royal Rumble.
Edge’s return was met with a huge ovation from the crowd, and he went on to have a strong showing in the match itself. He eliminate a number of wrestlers, including Braun Strowman and AJ Styles, before being eliminated by Brock Lesnar. Despite his elimination, Edge’s return was one of the biggest highlights of the Royal Rumble match.
Since his return, Edge has competed in a number of matches on WWE programming. He has wrestled matches against Kurt Angle, Randy Orton, and Seth Rollins, among others. He is also set to compete in a singles match against Randy Orton at WrestleMania 36.
World Heavyweight Champion
On June 30, 2008, at the WWE draft, Edge was drafted to the SmackDown brand. At The Bash pay-per-view, Edge won a Fatal Four Way match also involving Triple H, Batista and Kane to become the new WWE Champion. This made him a five-time world champion in WWE. He then began an on-screen relationship with Vickie Guerrero, which culminated in a wedding on SmackDown.
The Rated-R Superstar
Edge’s first WWE run came to an end in 2004 when he had to retire due to a neck injury. This did not stop Edge, as he made his return in 2006 better than ever. He won the Royal Rumble and went on to be one of the most dominant superstars in WWE history.
Edge’s Third WWE Run
WWE Champion
Edge’s third WWE run began on January 7, 2020, when he returned at the Royal Rumble pay-per-view event and won the men’s Royal Rumble match, last eliminating Roman Reigns to earn a world championship match at WrestleMania 36.
He went on to defeat Reigns at WrestleMania 36 to become WWE Champion for the first time in over nine years, becoming one of only four men to have won the WWE Championship, the World Heavyweight Championship, and the Universal Championship. He held the title until May 11, when he was forced to vacate it due to a legitimate neck injury.
World Heavyweight Champion
Edge’s Third WWE Run – (When Did Edge Come Back To WWE?)
Edge returned to WWE television on the April 11, 2016 episode of WWE SmackDown, coming out during a promo by The Miz and Mizdow, interrupting them and stated that he was back for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. The following week on SmackDown, Edge was scheduled to face Miz in a match to determine the number one contender for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, but Miz pulled out of the match due to an “injury” and instead chose to face Dolph Ziggler later in the show. After Ziggler defeated Miz, Edge came out and hit him with a Spear.
The Ultimate Opportunist
In January 2020, after a nine-year absence from WWE, Edge returned at the Royal Rumble and surprised the WWE Universe by winning the men’s Royal Rumble match. The Rated-R Superstar had been forced to retire in 2011 due to a serious neck injury, but he proved that he was still “The Ultimate Opportunist” by taking advantage of a historic moment and becoming a two-time Royal Rumble winner.
Edge went on to challenge WWE Universal Champion “The Fiend” Bray Wyatt at WrestleMania 36, but was unsuccessful in regaining the title he held 11 years earlier.
