Lita’s Early Life
Amy Dumas, better known as Lita, was born on April 14, 1975, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. She was a tomboy growing up and loved playing sports, especially football. Lita began watching wrestling with her father when she was 12 years old. When she was 16, she moved to Mexico to learn how to wrestle.
Lita’s real name
Born in North Carolina, Amy Dumas moved to Georgia at age 13 to attend high school. She soon dropped out, however, opting instead to pursue a career in music. In the late 1990s, Dumas began working as a roadie for a band called 3 Doors Down. It was during this time that she was first exposed to the world of professional wrestling.

Lita made her first appearance in WWE on the February 23, 2000 episode of RAW, attacking Matt Hardy and helping him win his match against Gangrel. The next week, Lita made her in-ring debut in a six-person tag team match. Lita would go on to have a successful career in WWE, winning the Women’s Championship four times.
Lita’s first WWE appearance
Lita made her first WWE appearance on the February 13, 2000 episode of Sunday Night Heat, in a tag team match alongside Essa Rios. The team defeated the then-debuting Trish Stratus and Jackie. Lita continued to tag team with Rios, and the duo won the WWE Tag Team Championship from Matt and Jeff Hardy at No Way Out.
Lita’s first WWE PPV appearance
Lita made her first WWE PPV appearance at the 2001 Royal Rumble, where she took part in a Battle Royal, which was won by Chyna. She made her in-ring debut the following month at No Way Out, teaming with Essa Rios in a losing effort to WWE Women’s Champion Ivory and Matt Hardy. Lita quickly began a storyline with Hardy, which culminated in a TLC match at Backlash in April, which Hardy won. In May, Lita suffered a legit neck injury after taking a backstage neckbreaker from Rhyno.
Lita’s Later WWE Career
After Lita’s unsuccessful attempt to win the WWE Women’s Championship from Trish Stratus at Unforgiven in 2006, she began a storyline with Edge which led to the pair having an on-screen romance and eventually led to Lita’s pregnancy. Lita and Edge’s on-screen relationship became increasingly controversial, as Edge was married in real life, with the angle being praised as one of the most well-executed angles in WWE history.
Lita’s retirement from WWE
Lita retired from WWE in 2006 after a successful career that spanned nearly a decade. She was one of the most popular Divas of her time and was a four-time Women’s Champion.
Lita’s retirement was not without controversy, however, as she was involved in a very public on-again, off-again relationship with fellow WWE Superstar CM Punk. The couple’s tumultuous relationship played out in the public eye and led to Lita’s eventual retirement from WWE.
Lita’s return to WWE
In May 2006, it was announced that Lita would make her return to WWE television on the May 30 episode of Raw as a special guest referee in a Women’s Championship match between Mickie James and Trish Stratus. Lita made sporadic appearances on Raw until she quit WWE for good in October 2006.
Lita’s final WWE match
On November 3, 2005, at Survivor Series, Lita competed in a 5-on-5 elimination match as a part of Team SmackDown!, which also included Mickie James, Torrie Wilson, Victoria and Jillian Hall. The team was defeated by Team RAW (Ashley Massaro, Maria Kanellis, Trish Stratus, Maryse Ouellet and Miss Jackie). Lita was the second to be eliminated in the match after she was pinned by Trish.
