The Seahawks join the NFL in 1976. They struggled in their first few years, but they made the playoffs in 1983. They had a few good seasons in the late 80s and early 90s, but they never made it to the Super Bowl. In 2001, they hired head coach Mike Holmgren and things started to turn around. They made the playoffs in 2003 and 2004, and finally made it to the Super Bowl in 2005.
The Seahawks are born
The Seahawks were born on June 4, 1974, when the NFL awarded an expansion franchise to Coastal
Football, Inc., a group headed by Michigan businessman David McClendon. The Seahawks were the 28th
franchise awarded in the NFL and the first in the Pacific Northwest. They were also the first expansion team to finish with a winning record in their inaugural season, posting a 9-7 mark.
The Seahawks Join the NFC
On June 4, 1974, the Seattle Seahawks were established as an expansion franchise in the National Football Conference (NFC) of the National Football League (NFL). At the time, the Seahawks were the 27th addition to the NFL and the 13th team in the NFC.
The Seahawks make the playoffs
In 2002, the Seahawks made their first playoff appearance in team history under head coach and general manager Mike Holmgren. The team finished the regular season with a 10–6 record and a Wild Card berth. The Seahawks defeated the Dallas Cowboys, 10–6, in the Wild Card round before losing to the Green Bay Packers, 33–27, in the Divisional Round. The 2003 Seahawks season was their fourth under head coach Mike Holmgren. They finished with a record of 10–6 and second place in the NFC West. The Seahawks defeated the Arizona Cardinals 20-10 in an NFC Wild Card game before losing 30-24 to the eventual Super Bowl champion Carolina Panthers in an NFC Divisional game.
The Seahawks Win the Super Bowl
The Seahawks joined the NFL in 1976 as an expansion team. The Seahawks had their first winning season in 1978 and made the playoffs for the first time in 1983. In 2003, the Seahawks hired head coach Pete Carroll. The Seahawks won their first Super Bowl in 2014.
The Seahawks make history
In 2012, the Seahawks went into the playoffs as a wild-card team with a record of 11–5. They defeated the Washington Redskins in the Wild Card round 28–14, and then dispatched the defending NFC champion San Francisco 49ers in the next round, 23–17. The Seahawks then won their first ever NFC Championship by defeating the top-seeded Atlanta Falcons 30–28, becoming the fourth team to win a conference title after starting the season with a losing record. They beat the Denver Broncos 43-8 in Super Bowl XLVIII to win their first championship.
