Sheamus’ Early Life

Sheamus was born on January 28, 1978, in Cabra, Dublin, Ireland, as Stephen Farrelly. He was a thin and sickly child, and was called “a puny little lad” by his father. Sheamus was interested in professional wrestling from an early age, and would often attempt to imitate wrestlers he saw on television. When he was 11 years old, he began to train in amateur wrestling and did so for several years.

In 2006, Sheamus debuted in Ohio Valley Wrestling (OVW), and held OVW’s Television Championship for two months in early 2007. He wrestled on Ohio Valley Wrestling’s (OVW) Saturday Night Main Event as “Sheamus O’Shaunessy” defeating Steven Lewington.[11] This earned him a spot in the 2007 King of the Ring tournament, which he did not win.[12]

Sheamus was signed to a development contract with World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) in June 2007, after impressing WWE officials during a tryout match. He was assigned to Florida Championship Wrestling (FCW), WWE’s developmental territory, and made his first television appearance on theECW brand that August.[13] As Sheamus, he defeated FCW Florida Heavyweight Champion Kikutaro to win his first championship while still in developmental territory. In October 2009, Sheamus was promoted to the RAW brand as part of WWE’s draft lottery, and made his debut that month.[14]
