Team Stats
The Arkansas Razorbacks baseball team is a collegiate baseball team representing the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, Arkansas. The team competes in Division I of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and is a member of the West Division of the Southeastern Conference (SEC). They play their home games at Baum Stadium, which opened in 1996 and has a seating capacity of 11,520. The Razorbacks are coached by Dave Van Horn.
In 1899, Arkansas State baseball began when W. T. Tuttle began coaching an intramural team. The program was discontinued in 1911 when no one volunteered to coach the team. In 1913, a new group wanted to start the program back up and asked John Futrall to be their head coach for $1 a week; he accepted. Although Futrall’s first season was less than stellar, he built Arkansas baseball up piece by piece until it became one of the collegiate powerhouses of the nation.
Futrall coached the Razorbacks from 1913 through 1923 while also serving as the head football coach and athletic director on campus. His overall baseball record at Arkansas was 109–58–5 (.649), which is still the best winning percentage of any head coach in school history. In 1922 and 1923, Futrall’s teams won 22 straight games; this remains as the longest winning streak in school history as well. Under Futrall, Arkansas won their first ever conference championship in 1923 when they finished 10–1 overall and 6–0 in the SWC; they would go on to win four more conference championships during his tenure (1926 Southwest Conference Baseball Tournament, 1928 Southwest Conference Baseball Tournament, 1929 Southwest Conference Baseball Tournament, 1932 Southwest Conference Baseball Tournament).
