When Does College Baseball Season End?
Baseball season is winding down, but there’s still plenty of time to catch a game or two. Here’s a look at when college baseball season ends.
The regular season
The regular college baseball season typically runs from late February to early May. However, the start and end dates can vary depending on the particular conference and location. NCAA Division I baseball teams usually play between 50 and 60 games during the regular season, while Division II and III teams play fewer games.
The college baseball postseason typically begins in early May with conference tournaments. The winners of these tournaments earn automatic bids to the NCAA tournament, which is also known as the College World Series (CWS). The CWS is a double-elimination tournament that takes place from late May to early June. The last team standing is crowned the national champion.
baseball teams that don’t make their conference tournament or receive an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament can still compete in the National Invitation Tournament (NIT) or the College Baseball Invitational (CBI). These are both single-elimination tournaments with 16 teams each. The NIT is organized by the NCAA, while the CBI is run by CollegiateBaseball Newspaper. Both tournaments take place in May and June.
Postseason
The Division I college baseball tournament starts in late May, with regionals and super regionals taking place across the country. The College World Series (CWS) is held in early June in Omaha, Nebraska. This year, the CWS is scheduled to start on Saturday, June 15 and will end on Tuesday, June 25 (if necessary).
The World Series
The College World Series (CWS) is an annual June baseball tournament held in Omaha, Nebraska. The CWS is the climax of the NCAA Division I Baseball Championship, which determines the national championship of college baseball. The eight participating teams are split into two, four-team double-elimination brackets with the winners of each bracket meeting in a best-of-three final series to determine the CWS champion.
