The regular season will begin on September 9th, 2021 and will conclude on January 3rd, 2022. The playoffs will then begin on January 10th, 2022 and will end with the Super Bowl on February 7th, 2022.

What Happened in 2020?

The regular season was originally scheduled to begin on Thursday, September 10, 2020, with the annual Kickoff Game between the defending Super Bowl champions Kansas City Chiefs and the Houston Texans. However, due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the start of the season was pushed back to September 17. The season was also reduced from its usual length of 16 games per team to just 15 games.

The playoffs were set to begin on Saturday, January 9, 2021, and conclude with Super Bowl LVI on Sunday, February 7 at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California. However, due to the rescheduling of several games due to positive COVID-19 tests among players and staff members of various teams, the playoffs were pushed back one week and will now begin on Saturday, January 16.

As of right now, there are no plans to cancel or postponethe 2021 NFL season. However, given the current state of the pandemic and the fact that several players and staff members have already contracted the virus, it is possible that there could be changes made to the schedule at some point during the season.

The 2021 Season
