The regular season for the 2021-2022 NHL season is set to begin on October 7th, 2021 and will run until April 17th, 2022. The Stanley Cup Playoffs are scheduled to begin on April 19th, 2022 and will conclude no later than June 16th, 2022.

2020-2021 NHL Season

The 2020-21 NHL season is the 105th season of operation (104th season of play) of the National Hockey League. It is scheduled to begin on December 1, 2020, and end no later than July 5, 2021, at the latest.

This Pending Season would have originally started on October 2nd, but because of the COVID-19 virus, it was pushed back a whole 2 months. This puts a lot of pressure on the NHL to finish this season on time, so that the next one can start on time as well.

Now because of this pandemic, many things have changed for this 2020-2021 Pending Season. For example, all seven Canadian teams will be playing in empty arenas to start the season. This is because Canadian government officials still have not given the “all clear” for fans to return to arenas yet.

In addition, the NHL has realigned their divisions for this Pending Season. Because of this realignment, each team will only play within their own division this regular season. The top four teams in each division will make the playoffs.
