The History of Triple A Baseball
Triple-A baseball traces its origins back to 1884, when the International League was founded as the “International Association” (IA). The IA featured 14 teams from Canada and the northeastern United States. In 1885, the IA changed its name to the “International League” (IL) and began operating primarily out of upstate New York.
In 1901, an effort was made to formalize relations between the IL and Major League Baseball (MLB). This resulted in the formation of what was known as the “Continental Association”, which featured eight IL teams and four from the Western League. However, this agreement only lasted one year, as various disputes caused it to dissolve.
The IL continued to operate as an independent entity until 1953, when it formally joined Minor League Baseball as a charter member. At that time, the league consisted of 12 teams from Pennsylvania, Ohio, New York and Ontario. In 1961, MLB expanded and created two new tier levels within MiLB – Double-A and Triple-A – with Triple-A becoming the highest level of minor league baseball.
Since that time, Triple-A baseball has undergone several changes. In 1963, the Pacific Coast League (PCL) was formed out of MLB’s westernmost clubs who were not selected to participate in MLB expansion that year. In 1969, Major League Baseball split into two divisions – East and West – which led to four additional Triple-A leagues being created:
the American Association (AA), CentralLeague(CL), EasternLeague(EL),and SouthernLeague(SL). The AA ceased operations followingthe 1997 season after having absorbed several other Triple-Asquads throughout its history;the CL folded followingthe 1984 season;the EL continues to operate out of Virginia;and finallythe SL morphed intothe current South Atlantic Leaguethat plays at lower levelsinMiLB.
When does Triple A Baseball Season Start?
The Triple-A level is a step below Major League Baseball, and the vast majority of players in this level are prospects who are on their way up to the majors or veterans trying to keep their careers alive.
The season starts in early April and runs through September. The regular season is followed by the Triple-A playoffs, which culminate in the Triple-A World Series.
How to become a Triple A Baseball player
In order to become a Triple A baseball player, there are a few things that you will need to do. First and foremost, you will need to have some experience playing baseball at lower levels. Most Triple A players have spent time in Double A or even Single A baseball before being promoted to the Triple A level.
You will also need to be of a certain age in order to qualify for Triple A baseball. Most players at this level are between the ages of 23 and 26. This is because players who are younger than 23 are still considered to be prospects, while players who are older than 26 are generally considered to be too old for the Triple A level.
Finally, you will need to impress the scouts and team management during spring training and in the early part of the season. If you can do all of these things, then you will have a good chance of being promoted to the Triple A level at some point during your career.
Conclusion
The Triple-A baseball season typically starts in early April and ends in early September. However, the specific dates can vary from year to year. For example, the 2019 Triple-A baseball season started on April 4 and is scheduled to end on September 2.
