Each first-place vote is worth 10 points; each second-place vote is worth seven; each third-place vote is worth five; each fourth-place vote is worth three; and each fifth-place vote is worth one. Starting from 2010, one ballot was cast by fans through online voting. The player with the highest point total wins the award. As of May 2016, Russell Westbrook and Stephen Curry are tied for second place with nine wins apiece. Oscar Robertson holds the record for most wins with 10.*

Bird and Johnson are the only players to win Consecutive MVP’s, while Jordan joins Shaq as one of two players to have three MVP’s in four years with his victories in 1996 followed by back to back wins in 1999 and 2000. James is also only player in NBA history to be named MVP in four consecutive seasons(2012-13 followed by 2013-14, 2014-15 and 2015-16). Jordan became one of only two players all time to average a triple double for an entire season en route to his 10th scoring title as well as his 5th MVP award in 1988-89 season. Malone became only player ever to average 30 points and 15 rebounds per game over entire season en route to capturing 3rd MVP award in 1980-81 season whereas O’Neal became one sixth player all time join 50 40 club i.e averaging at least 20 points and 10 rebounds per game over an entire season while also shooting 50 percent or better from field as he captured his first ever MVP award during 1999-00 campaign.
