When Is The NBA Season?

Introduction

The NBA season is upon us! Here is a guide to when the season starts and ends, as well as some important dates to keep in mind.

The regular season begins on October 22nd and ends on April 10th. The playoffs will start April 13th and the Finals will conclude June 16th. Keep in mind that these are approximate dates and are subject to change.

Some key dates to remember are Christmas Day (when many marquee games take place), Martin Luther King Jr. Day, and the All-Star Game (which takes place February 16th this year).

So mark your calendars and get ready for another exciting NBA season!

The NBA Season

The NBA season is in full swing and the best teams are starting to emerge. The Golden State Warriors and the Cleveland Cavaliers are two of the best teams in the league. These two teams have been to the NBA Finals the past two years. The Warriors are the defending champions and the Cavaliers are the reigning champions.

The NBA Pre-Season

The NBA preseason is the period of time before the regular season starts. During this time, each team plays several exhibition games against other NBA teams, as well as against international teams. These games are used to help prepare the teams for the upcoming season, and to give the players a chance to show off their skills to the coaches and front office staff.

The preseason typically begins in early October, and runs for about three weeks. The regular season then starts in late October and runs until April. The postseason (or playoffs) begin in April and can last until June.

The NBA Regular Season

The NBA regular season typically runs from October to April, with each team playing 82 games. The playoffs then follow, and the NBA Finals are usually held in June. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020-2021 season will be shortened to 72 games, with the regular season running from December 22, 2020 to May 16, 2021. The playoffs will then begin on May 22 and the NBA Finals are scheduled to start on July 22.

The NBA Playoffs

The NBA Playoffs are a best-of-seven elimination tournament among the 16 teams that qualified for the playoffs by having the best record in their conference during the regular season. The tournament brackets are set in advance, and the teams’ seeding within those brackets is generally based on their win-loss record.

The first round of the playoffs, or conference quarterfinals, consists of each conference’s top seed playing against the eighth seed, the second seed playing against the seventh seed, the third seed playing against the sixth seed, and the fourth seed playing against the fifth seed. Home-court advantage is awarded to the higher seed in each first-round matchup.

In the second round, or conference semifinals, the matching pairs of first-round opponents (higher seeded team vs. lower seeded team) play each other with home-court advantage again being awarded to each higher seeded team; however, if one team had home court advantage in its first round series (due to a better regular season record), then its opponent will have home court advantage in this series due to an inferior regular season record.

The winners of each second round series advance to either the conference finals or semifinals depending on whether they are a division winner as well (only two teams from each division make it past this round). Conference Finals are generally played between division winners since they will have had superior records over other playoff teams during the regular season but this is not always true due to injuries and trades occurring during/before/after the regular season.

Finally, four teams face off in two best-of-seven semifinal playoff rounds—the winners of which advance to compete for their respective conference championships in another best-of-seven series. The two winning teams from those Conference Finals meet in The Finals for a maximum possible seven games to decide who wins that year’s NBA championship.

Conclusion

The NBA season is a long one, running from October to June. The playoffs extend into July, and the Finals can go even later than that. So if you’re a basketball fan, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to catch NBA action throughout the year.
