The NFL Draft Process

The National Football League Draft, also called the player selection meeting, is an annual event in which the 32 NFL teams select eligible college football players. It serves as the league’s most common source of player recruitment. The basic design of the draft is that each team is given a position in the drafting order in reverse order relative to its record in the previous year, which means that the last-place team from the previous year picks first. From this position, each team then selects a player.

The NFL Draft Order

The 2020 NFL Draft order is now set following the conclusion of Super Bowl LIV on Sunday. The Kansas City Chiefs are the reigning champions after defeating the San Francisco 49ers, and they’ll draft 32nd overall as a result.

The NFL Draft History

The first NFL Draft was held in 1936, with Jay Berwanger of the University of Chicago being selected as the first-ever pick. Originally, the draft was held in Philadelphia but has been held in a number of different cities over the years.

In 1942, the draft was canceled due to World War II and wasn’t resumed until 1944. From 1944-1956, the draft was held in various cities on different days and wasn’t televised. The 1957 NFL Draft was held in New York City and was the first to be nationally televised.

The NFL Draft went through a major change in 1967 when it switched from a system where teams drafted in reverse order of their won-loss record to a system where teams drafted in a serpentine order. The current system has been used ever since.

In 2010, the NFL Draft began to be held over a three-day period and continues to be held that way today. The first round is on Thursday night, with the second and third rounds on Friday night. Rounds 4-7 are on Saturday afternoon/evening.

The NFL Draft Eligibility

The NFL Draft is an exciting time for any football fan, as it marks the beginning of a new season and the chance for their favorite team to improve. But before you get too excited, it’s important to understand the eligibility requirements for the draft.

In order to be eligible for the NFL Draft, a player must be out of high school for at least three years and have used up their eligibility at the collegiate level. This means that a player who is entering their junior year of college or has already graduated is eligible for the draft.

Players who have not been out of high school for at least three years are not eligible for the draft and will have to wait until they meet this requirement before they can declare themselves eligible.

There are a few exceptions to this rule. Players who are attending college on a football scholarship but have not yet used up their eligibility can declare themselves eligible for the draft after their junior year. However, they will forfeit their remaining eligibility if they do so.

Players who have been out of high school for more than three years but did not play collegiate football (or played very little) may also be eligible for the draft. These players are known as “hardship cases” and must petition the NFL to be declared eligible.

If you’re wondering when the NFL Draft will start, it typically takes place in April each year. The specific date varies from year to year, so be sure to check back closer to draft time for an updated schedule!

The NFL Draft Prospects

The NFL Draft is the annual event where the 32 clubs in the National Football League (NFL) select newly eligible football players. The draft order is determined based on the previous season’s standings, with the team holding the worst record receiving the first pick. The draft consists of seven rounds, and each team is given one pick in each round.

The NFL Draft Combine

The NFL Draft Combine is a week-long showcase of the top college football prospects for the upcoming NFL Draft. During the Combine, prospective NFL players are put through a series of physical and mental tests, including the 40-yard dash, vertical jump, bench press, and Wonderlic test. Representatives from all 32 NFL teams are in attendance to interview prospects and get a closer look at them before the Draft.

The NFL Draft Trades
