Manufacturing Process

The lumber for a baseball bat is split into two cooperating halves, then each half is sawn lengthwise into thin strips no more than 2⅜ inches (60 mm) wide and ⅝ inches (16 mm) thick. These strips are then glued together to form a laminated “blank” about 38 inches (97 cm) long and 2⅜ to 3 inches (60 to 76 mm) in diameter.

The blank is placed into a computer-controlled lathe that carves it into the rough shape of a baseball bat. After the blank is roughed out, it is sent for final shaping, which may be done by hand or by machine.
