The History of the NFL Rams
The Rams franchise began in 1936 as the Cleveland Rams. The franchise was founded in Cleveland, Ohio, by attorney Homer Marshman and player-coach Damon Wetzel. Marshman and Wetzel recruited Stanley Frank (nicknamed “The Whiz Kid”) to be the Rams’ first head coach. The team played their home games at Cleveland Stadium.
In 1946, the franchise moved to Los Angeles, California. The move was motivated by the promise of a larger market for the team’s games and the belief that West Coast fans would be more loyal to a Los Angeles-based team. The Rams played their home games at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.
In 1995, the franchise moved again, this time to St. Louis, Missouri. The move was motivated by poor attendance in LA and a better lease agreement in St. Louis. The Rams played their home games at the Edward Jones Dome (now known as The Dome at America’s Center).
In 2016, the franchise moved back to Los Angeles, California. They play their home games at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California.
