Where Are The Rams From NFL?

The Early Years

The Rams were a charter member of the second American Football League and began play in 1936. The Rams played their home games at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum from 1946 to 1979. In 1980, they moved to Anaheim Stadium in Anaheim, California, where they remained until 1987.

The Rams’ first season in 1936

The Rams’ first season in 1936 was quite a success. They won their first seven games, including a victory over the eventual NFL champions, the Green Bay Packers. After losing their next two games, they finished the season with eight wins and four losses, good for second place in the Western Division behind the Chicago Bears. So far, so good.

Things got even better in 1937. The Rams won their first eight games again, this time with an undefeated record. They lost their next two games, but still managed to finish the season in first place in the Western Division with a 10-2 record. They qualified for the NFL playoffs for the first time in franchise history.

In the playoff game against the Washington Redskins, the Rams won easily, 28-0. In the NFL Championship Game against the Bears, they lost 7-6 in one of the most disappointing finishes in NFL history. The Bears went on to win three more championships in 1940, 1941, and 1946 while the Rams would have to wait another 13 years for their next championship.

The Rams’ move to Los Angeles in 1946

In 1946, the Rams were bought by Dan Reeves, who moved the franchise to Los Angeles. The first decade of the team’s existence in Los Angeles was marked by mediocre play on the field and intense competition with cross-town rivals, the Los Angeles Dodgers, for fans. During this time, the Rams acquired several high-profile players, such as quarterbacks Bob Waterfield and Norm Van Brocklin and running back Dick “Night Train” Lane.

The Modern Era

The Rams began their life in Cleveland in 1936. The team was founded by attorney Homer Marshman and player-coach Damon Wetzel, and they were a charter member of the American Football League. The Rams moved to Los Angeles in 1946, becoming the first professional sports franchise in the city.

The Rams’ return to Los Angeles in 2016

In 2016, the Rams returned to Los Angeles after twenty-one seasons in St. Louis. The move was approved by a 30–2 vote of NFL owners on January 12, 2016. Stan Kroenke, the Rams’ owner, had negotiated a deal with the Inglewood City Council in 2015 to build a $1.86 billion stadium on land he owned in Inglewood, northeast of Los Angeles International Airport.

The decision to move was widely criticized. Some fans in St. Louis expressed anger at losing their team, while others in Los Angeles were critical of the NFL for approving another team so soon after the Raiders’ departure for Las Vegas (the Raiders had relocated back to Oakland for the 1995 season). Others saw it as an opportunity to increase the NFL’s footprint on the West Coast and improve its TV ratings.

The Rams played their first game at their new home, Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, on September 18, 2016, defeating the Seattle Seahawks 9–3 in front of a crowd of 91,046 people.

The Rams’ Super Bowl appearances in 1980 and 2018

The Rams made two Super Bowl appearances in the modern era, in 1980 and 2018. They won the 80 Super Bowl, but lost the 2018 Super Bowl to the New England Patriots.

The Rams’ Rivalries

The Rams are a professional American football team that plays in the National Football League (NFL). They are currently members of the NFC West division. The Rams have won three NFL championships, and are the only team to win championships while representing three different cities (Cleveland in 1945, Los Angeles in 1951, and St. Louis in 1999).

The Rams’ rivalry with the 49ers

The Rams–49ers rivalry is a professional American football rivalry between the Los Angeles Rams and San Francisco 49ers. Both teams compete in the National Football League (NFL). The Rams–49ers rivalry is considered one of the most intense in the NFL.

Both teams first played each other in 1950, when the Rams were based in Los Angeles, California. The Rams and 49ers have been division rivals since 1967, when the 49ers joined the Rams in the newly created NFC West division.

The Rams have won 27 total games against the 49ers, while the 49ers have won 21 total games against the Rams. The Rams have won 3 out of 4 playoff games against the 49ers.

The Rams’ rivalry with the Cowboys

The Rams originally played in Cleveland from 1936 to 1945, Los Angeles from 1946 to 1994, and St. Louis from 1995 to 2015 before returning back to Los Angeles in 2016. During their time in Cleveland, the Rams had a bitter rivalry with the Dallas Cowboys. The Cowboys were established in 1960, four years after the Rams had moved to Los Angeles. The two teams met in the NFL Championship game in 1967 and 1970, with the Rams winning both times. The rivalry cooled off after the Rams moved to St. Louis but was rekindled when the Cowboys defeated the Rams in a 2006 playoff game.
