Growing up, Colon Jr. dreamed of following in his father’s footsteps and becoming a professional wrestler himself someday.
In 1998, at the age of 19, he finally got his chance when he was signed by WWE. He was sent to train at their developmental facility, Ohio Valley Wrestling (OVW), where he quickly began to make a name for himself. In 2003, he made his television debut on WWE’s SmackDown brand under the name “Carlito Caribbean Cool.” His character was that of a smooth-talking, womanizing playboy from the island of Puerto Rico who enjoyed drinking rum and smoking cigars.

Carlito soon found success as a singles competitor, becoming a three-time WWC Universal Heavyweight Champion and holding the title for almost two years. In 2003, Carlito was hired by the World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE).
After being assigned to Ohio Valley Wrestling (OVW), Carlito made his WWE television debut on the November 11, 2004 episode of SmackDown!, defeating John Cena in a Rap Battle. Carlito Caribbean Cool was born on February 21, in San Juan, Puerto Rico. His father, Jose Luis Rodriguez, was a well-known professional wrestler in the 1970s and 1980s who went by the name Carlos Colon. His grandfather, Benjamin Rodriguez, was also a professional wrestler and promoter who founded the World Wrestling Council (WWC) in 1973. Carlito is one of four wrestling brothers; his brothers are Primo, Epico, and Eric. He is also cousins with WWE wrestlers Eddie and Orlando Colon (better known as Epico and Primo).
In Popular Culture
Carlito has made numerous television and film appearances. In 2007, he made a cameo appearance as a doorman in the action film We Own the Night. In 2009, he appeared in an episode of USA Network’s Burn Notice, playing a Cuban henchman. Carlito made a brief appearance in the 2014 film The Expendables 3, portraying MartÃn.
