Brown was raised in St. Louis, Missouri. He played high school football at Gateway Tech High School in St. Louis, where he was a three-sport athlete in football, basketball and track. Brown caught 45 passes for 733 yards and eight touchdowns as a senior, helping his team to an 11–1 record and a berth in the state playoffs.
