Where Is Mvp WWE?

This blog discusses the potential whereabouts of the WWE superstar, MVP.
WWE’s decision to let MVP go
It has been almost a year since we have seen Montel Vontavious Porter on WWE television. After his contract expired in October of 2014, the former United States and Tag Team Champion has been working the independent circuit. It was recently reported that the “Ballin Superstar” has been booked for New Japan Pro Wrestling’s (NJPW) upcoming Best of the Super Juniors tournament. With that being said, where is MVP and why isn’t he with WWE?
The writing was on the wall
MVP’s time with WWE had been coming to an end for a while. He had been off television for a while and was only appearing at live events. It was reported that his contract was not going to be renewed and he would be leaving the company.
WWE’s creative direction
In recent years, WWE has been moving away from signing part-time wrestlers to full-time contracts. The trend started with The Rock and Brock Lesnar, who would only come back for a few matches a year. Over time, this changed to WWE signing legends to one-off appearances or short-term contracts for special events. The most notable recent examples are Hulk Hogan, Goldberg, and Stone Cold Steve Austin.
MVP is someone who falls into that category of “legend.” He’s a former world champion and one of the most popular wrestlers from the 2000s. His return to WWE last year was met with great fanfare, but he was only used sparingly on television. It became clear that WWE had no long-term plans for him.
Given WWE’s current creative direction, it’s not surprising that they let MVP go. They’re simply not signing wrestlers to full-time contracts unless they’re absolutely essential to the product. In MVP’s case, he was no longer essential to WWE’s programming.
Where is MVP now?
Though he was released by WWE in early 2016, Montel Vontavious Porter, better known to fans as MVP, remains one of the most popular Superstars to ever grace a WWE ring. After a successful run in WWE, Porter transitioned to New Japan Pro-Wrestling, where he found similar success. So, where is MVP now?
New Japan Pro Wrestling
MVP is now a professional wrestler with New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW). He made his debut with the company at Wrestle Kingdom 12 in January 2018, where he defeated Hiroshi Tanahashi to win the IWGP Intercontinental Championship.
MVP is also a producer and commentator for NJPW’s English-language broadcasts.
Lucha Underground
MVP is currently signed to Lucha Underground. He is set to make his in-ring debut on the second season of the show.
What could have been
A wasted opportunity
MVP was one of the most popular WWE Superstars during his time with the company. He was a two-time United States Champion and a one-time Tag Team Champion. He was also a New York Times Bestselling author.
However, in recent years MVP has been largely forgotten by WWE fans. He was released from his contract in 2014 and has since wrestled intermittently for independent companies.
So what happened to MVP? And why is he no longer with WWE?
MVP first debuted in WWE in 2006 as part of the ECW brand. He quickly became one of the most popular stars on the roster, winning the United States Championship twice and the Tag Team Championship once.
However, in 2010 MVP was released from his WWE contract after he asked for time off to deal with personal issues. He returned to WWE later that year but was then released again in 2011.
MVP then joined New Japan Pro Wrestling, where he became one of the company’s top stars. He won the IWGP Heavyweight Championship and had successful runs with other titles.
In 2016, MVP returned to WWE as part of the Cruiserweight Classic tournament. He made it to the semi-finals before being eliminated by eventual winner TJ Perkins.
Since then, MVP has made occasional appearances on WWE programming but is not currently signed to a contract with the company.
A missed chance
MVP was one of the most athletic and charismatic wrestlers in WWE during his time with the company. He was a two-time United States Champion and one-time Tag Team Champion. He was also a Money in the Bank winner.
However, despite all of his success in WWE, MVP never held the WWE Championship. He was never even given a proper shot at the title.
Some have speculated that WWE never saw MVP as a main event caliber talent. Others believe that his lack of size (he is only 5’9″) held him back from being a top guy in WWE.
Whatever the reason may be, MVP’s failure to capture the WWE Championship is a missed opportunity for both him and WWE.
