The History of Texas Tech Baseball

Texas Tech Baseball has a long and storied history dating back to the early 1900s. The team has won multiple conference championships and made several trips to the NCAA tournament. In recent years, the team has struggled to find success, but the future looks bright with a talented young roster.

Texas Tech baseball began in 1901, when the school was known as Texas A&M College of Agricultural and Mechanical Arts. The first game was played against Baylor University on April 11th, 1901. The game was won by Baylor by a score of 14-3.

In 1925, Texas Tech joined the Border Conference. The Border Conference was a college baseball only conference that consisted of teams from Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, and Arizona. Texas Tech won the Border Conference regular season title in 1932 and made their first appearance in the NCAA tournament. They would make one more appearance in the tournament in 1934 before leaving the conference in 1938.

Texas Tech joined the Southwest Conference in 1938 and would compete in that conference until it dissolved in 1996. The team made five trips to the NCAA tournament while members of the Southwest Conference, with their best finish coming in 1995 when they made it to the College World Series for the first time in school history.

In 1997, Texas Tech became members of the Big 12 Conference where they have competed ever since. The team has made four trips to Omaha for the College World Series since joining the Big 12, with their most recent trip coming in 2014.

The Texas Tech Baseball program is a collegiate baseball team that represents Texas Tech University (TTU). The team is a member of the NCAA Division I Big 12 Conference. They play their home games at Dan Law Field at Rip Griffin Park on the university’s campus in Lubbock, Texas. The program has had 27 head coaches since it started in 1925 and have appeared in the College World Series four times (1953, 1974, 2016, 2019).

The 2018 Texas Tech Baseball Schedule

The 2018 Texas Tech baseball schedule has the Red Raiders playing their home games at Dan Law Field at Rip Griffin Park on the campus of Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas.
