Asuka is a Japanese professional wrestler who is currently signed to WWE under the ring name Asuka, performing on the SmackDown brand. She is a former NXT Women’s Champion and a two-time WWE Women’s Tag Team Champion, having held both titles with Charlotte Flair.
Born and raised in Osaka, Japan, Kana began her professional wrestling career in 2004, trained by her mother. She wrestled extensively in both Japan and North America for various independent promotions until she was signed by WWE in 2015 and assigned to their developmental branch NXT. In NXT, Asuka became a two-time NXT Women’s Champion before heading to the main roster in early 2018.
On the main roster, Asuka won the inaugural women’s Royal Rumble match in 2018 and went on to challenge Charlotte Flair for the SmackDown Women’s Championship at WrestleMania 34; she lost the match after submitting to Flair’s figure-eight leglock submission hold. She then entered into a successful tag team with Naomi as part of The Kabuki Warriors, which saw them win the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship twice. With her second title win, Asuka became only the second wrestler (after Flair) to have held both NXT Women’s and WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships.
