NBA All-Star Game

The National Basketball Association (NBA) All-Star Game is an annual exhibition basketball game played between the Eastern Conference and the Western Conference of the NBA. Each conference team consists of 12 players, making it 24 in total. It is usually held on the second Sunday in February and is played during the regular season of the NBA.

The first All-Star Game was played on January 15, 1951, at Boston Garden in Boston, Massachusetts. The game was initiated by Boston Celtics owner Walter Brown as a way to generate additional interest in the league and in professional basketball. The original format featured two teams of five players each, with players chosen by vote of fans. The game was not televised until 1953.

The East team won that first game, with Clyde Lovellette being named MVP. Since then, the All-Star Game has been played every year except for cancellation due to labor stoppages in 1999 and 2020. It is typically held on a Saturday night before or during NBA’s February break (also known as the All-Star break).

The NBA All-Star Game is an annual exhibition game played by the best players from the National Basketball Association (NBA). The game was first played in 1951, and its rosters have since featured players from every NBA franchise. Each year, 12 players—five starters and seven reserves—from each conference are selected to play in the All-Star Game. Coaches are not allowed to vote for their own players, and must instead select two guards, three frontcourt players and two wild card players regardless of position. If a player is unable to participate due to injury, the NBA commissioner selects a replacement.

The starters for the 2021 NBA All-Star Game were announced on February 18, 2021. The game will be played on March 7, 2021 at Staples Center in Los Angeles.
