NFL Conference Overview

There are two NFL conferences, the American Football Conference (AFC) and the National Football Conference (NFC). The AFC has 16 teams and the NFC has 14 teams. The conference with the most players in the NFL is the AFC with 1,060 players.

AFC

The American Football Conference (AFC) is one of the two conferences of the National Football League (NFL), the highest professional level of American football in the world. This conference and its counterpart, the National Football Conference (NFC), currently contain 16 teams each, making up a total of 32 teams in the NFL. Both conferences are divided into four divisions: North, East, South, and West. Two teams from each division make it to the AFC and NFC playoffs at the end of every NFL season.

The AFC has been home to some of the most dominant NFL teams over the years, including the New England Patriots, Pittsburgh Steelers, and Indianapolis Colts. These three teams have combined for thirteen Super Bowl championships since 2001. In fact, every AFC team that has won a Super Bowl since 2001 has come from either the East or North divisions. The only team from outside these divisions to win a Super Bowl in that time period is the Denver Broncos, who are in the AFC West.

NFC

The National Football Conference (NFC) is one of the two conferences of the National Football League (NFL), the largest professional American football league in the United States. This conference and its counterpart, the American Football Conference (AFC), currently contain 16 teams each, making up a total of 32 teams. A series of league expansion and division realignments have occurred throughout the NFL’s history since its formation in 1920, with the most recent happening in 2002.
