Contents
The NBA Finals are underway and we are down to the last two teams vying for the title. But which NBA team has never won a championship?
The Lakers
The Lakers are a storied franchise with a rich history. They’ve been around for over 70 years and have won 16 championships. However, they’ve never won a championship since moving to Los Angeles.
Their history
The Lakers began in 1947 as the Minneapolis Lakers, one of the NBA’s first expansion franchises. They won five championships in Minneapolis, led by stars such as George Mikan, before relocating to Los Angeles in 1960. The team struggled initially after the move, but they eventually regrouped and won five more titles in the 1980s under the leadership of Magic Johnson and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. The Lakers won back-to-back titles again in 2000 and 2001 behind Shaquille O’Neal and Kobe Bryant. The team has appeared in a record 32 NBA Finals, and they have won 16 championships, which is also an NBA record.
Their star players
The Lakers have had many star players throughout their history, including Magic Johnson, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Shaquille O’Neal, and Kobe Bryant. They are currently led by LeBron James and Anthony Davis.
The Knicks
The Knicks are a basketball team based in New York City. They are members of the National Basketball Association (NBA) and play in the Atlantic Division of the Eastern Conference. The Knicks have won two NBA championships, but both of those came before the NBA-ABA merger in 1976.
Their history
The New York Knicks are a professional basketball team based in New York City. The Knicks compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA) as a member of the Atlantic Division of the Eastern Conference. The team plays its home games at Madison Square Garden, an arena they share with the New York Rangers of the National Hockey League (NHL). They are one of two NBA teams located in New York City; the other is the Brooklyn Nets. Along with the Boston Celtics, the Knicks are one of only two original NBA teams still located in its original city.
The Knicks were successful during their early years and were constant playoff contenders under the leadership of players such as Harry Gallatin, Dick Barnett, and Willis Reed. However, they failed to win an NBA championship, and suffered a 46-year drought until hard-nosed player Pat Riley led them to an NBA Finals appearance in 1994. Since then, they have made the playoffs 15 times but have been unable to return to serious title contention.
Their star players
The New York Knicks have never won an NBA championship. However, they have had several star players throughout their history. These include:
-Walt Frazier
-Patrick Ewing
-Carmelo Anthony
The Knicks have also been to the NBA Finals on several occasions, but have never been able to win it all.
The Suns
Their history
The Suns began play as an expansion team in 1968. The franchise owns the NBA’s fourth-best all-time winning percentage, winning 55 percent of its games, as of the end of the 2012–13 season. In forty-five years of play, they have made the playoffs 29 times (3rd most all-time), posted nineteen seasons of 50 or more wins (4th most all-time), made nine trips to the Western Conference Finals (5th most all-time), and advanced to two NBA Finals, in 1976 and 1993. As a result, based on their all-time win-loss percentage, the Suns are the team with the highest winning percentage to have never won an NBA Championship.
Their star players
The Suns have never won an NBA Championship. Although they have had many great players throughout their history, they have not been able to win the big one.
Some of the Suns’ star players have included Charles Barkley, Steve Nash, Jason Kidd, Amar’e Stoudemire, and Shawn Marion.
