In the Western Conference, the Golden State Warriors are once again the heavy favorites, but they will have to be on their A-game as they take on a very talented Houston Rockets team in the first round.
Here is a look at each series in the first round of the playoffs:
Eastern Conference:
(1) Milwaukee Bucks vs. (8) Detroit Pistons
The Bucks are the clear favorites in this series, but the Pistons have been playing well lately and could give them a run for their money. However, I ultimately think that Milwaukee will prevail and move on to the next round.
(2) Toronto Raptors vs. (7) Orlando Magic
The Raptors are another team that is widely expected to win their first-round matchup, but the Magic could make things interesting. Toronto will need to be sharp on both ends of the court in order to get past Orlando.
(3) Philadelphia 76ers vs. (6) Brooklyn Nets
This is one of the most evenly matched series in the first round, as both teams are very talented and evenly matched. I expect this series to go down to the wire, but ultimately I think that Philly will come out on top.
(4) Boston Celtics vs. (5) Indiana Pacers
The Celtics are coming into this series as slight underdogs against the Pacers, but I think they have what it takes to win. Indiana has been playing well all season long, but Boston is a battle-tested team that knows how to win in the playoffs.

The Warriors are the defending champions and have won three of the last four NBA titles. They’re also the favorites to win it all again this year. But the Raptors are a very good team, and they’ll be playing at home in front of their passionate fans. So this should be a great series.
Who are the favorites to win the NBA Finals?
The 2019 NBA Finals will be the championship series of the National Basketball Association (NBA)’s 2018–19 season and conclusion of the season’s playoffs. In keeping with tradition, the series will be a best-of-seven matchup between the two conference champions, with the Western Conference holding home court advantage. The Golden State Warriors are the two-time defending NBA champions and are in search of a third consecutive title, while the Toronto Raptors clinched their first ever berth to the NBA Finals in franchise history.
The Warriors entered the playoffs as the top seed in the Western Conference after winning 58 games, while the Raptors earned the second seed in the East with a record of 57 wins. The Warriors then defeated the Los Angeles Clippers and Houston Rockets in six and five games respectively, while Toronto swept both Orlando and Milwaukee before taking out Philadelphia in seven games.
This will be just the second time that these two teams have met in the Finals, with Golden State winning in six games back in 2015. That said, these are two very different teams from when they last met four years ago. Kevin Durant wasn’t even on the Warriors then, while Kawhi Leonard wasn’t on the Raptors. Furthermore, Klay Thompson didn’t play in that series due to injury, while Durant is now sidelined with an injury of his own.
The Warriors are still heavy favorites to win this series despite all of these changes, but it certainly won’t be easy against a Raptors team that is playing as well as any other team in these playoffs.
