List of NFL Coaches Who Have Been Fired

So far this NFL season, three head coaches have been fired. They are Adam Gase of the New York Jets, Bill O’Brien of the Houston Texans, and Matt Patricia of the Detroit Lions. All three coaches were let go after disappointing seasons. Let’s take a closer look at each case.

Bruce Arians

Bruce Arians has been fired as the head coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after just two seasons in charge. Arians, who came out of retirement to take the Bucs job in 2019, led the team to a 7-9 record in his first season and then back to the playoffs with a 10-6 record this past season. The 66-year-old coach has a career record of 125-83-1 and is a two-time AP Coach of the Year.

Hue Jackson

Hue Jackson was born on October 22, 1965, in Los Angeles, California. He played football and baseball at the University of Pacific. Jackson was drafted in the 1986 NFL Draft by the Los Angeles Raiders in the eighth round. He played for the Raiders from 1987 to 1990. Jackson coached at the high school level from 1992 to 1996. He was the wide receivers coach for the Arizona Cardinals from 1998 to 2000. Jackson was the offensive coordinator for the Washington Redskins in 2003. Jackson became the head coach of the Oakland Raiders in 2011. He was fired by the Raiders after a 8-8 season. Jackson became the head coach of the Cleveland Browns in 2016. He was fired by the Browns after going 1-15 in his first season and 0-16 in his second season.

Adam Gase

Adam Gase (born March 29, 1978) is an American football coach who is currently the head coach of the New York Jets of the National Football League (NFL). He has also been the offensive coordinator for the Chicago Bears and Denver Broncos. He was previously the head coach of the Miami Dolphins.

Gase was born in Ypsilanti, Michigan. He played quarterback at Michigan State University from 1996 to 1999. Gase began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at LSU in 2000. He then held various assistant coaching positions with the Detroit Lions, San Francisco 49ers, Cleveland Browns, and Miami Dolphins before being hired as the offensive coordinator of the Denver Broncos in 2013. Gase helped lead the Broncos to Super Bowl XLVIII, where they were defeated by the Seattle Seahawks.

Gase was hired as the head coach of the Miami Dolphins in 2016. He led the team to a 10–6 record and a playoff berth in his first season as head coach. The Dolphins failed to make the playoffs in each of his next two seasons and he was fired on December 31, 2018.

Gase was hired by the Jets on January 11, 2019.
