Dallas Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys are a professional American football team based in the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex. The Cowboys compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member club of the league’s National Football Conference (NFC) East division. The team is headquartered in Frisco, Texas, and plays its home games at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, which opened for the 2009 season. The stadium took the place of the partially demolished Texas Stadium, which served as the Cowboys’ home stadium from 1971 to 2008.

The Cowboys joined the NFL as an expansion team in 1960. The team’s national following might best be represented by its NFL record of consecutive sell-outs. The Cowboys’ streak of 190 consecutive sold-out regular and post-season games (home and away) began in 2002. The franchise has made it to the Super Bowl eight times, tied with the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Denver Broncos for second most Super Bowl appearances in history, behind only the New England Patriots’ nine appearances. This has also corresponded to eight NFC championships, most in the NFC. They are also one of five teams to win more than three Super Bowls within a span of four seasons since 1970 (1972–1975), along with three other teams that have accomplished this feat: including those same Steelers as well as three San Francisco 49ers teams (1981–1984), one Green Bay Packers dynasty spanning from 1961 to 1967 and one New England Patriots dynasty from 2001 to 2018). In addition, six Cowboys players have been inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame solely for their accomplishments with Dallas: linebacker Chuck Howley; defensive end Bob Lilly; offensive lineman Forrest Gregg; wide receiver Michael Irvin; quarterback Roger Staubach; running back Tony Dorsett; and linebacker/defensive end Deion Sanders who played five seasons with Dallas during his Hall of Fame career (1989–1993, 1995).
