The majority of NFL stadiums have switched to artificial turf in recent years, but there are still a few teams holding out for the real thing. Here’s a look at which NFL stadiums have real grass.
Green Bay Packers – Lambeau Field
Lambeau Field, home of the Green Bay Packers, is the only stadium in the NFL that does not have FieldTurf. The playing surface is natural grass, which is a rarity in the league these days.
Seattle Seahawks – CenturyLink Field
The playing field at CenturyLink Field is made up of real grass that is grown specifically for the stadium. The grass is a beautiful shade of green that really pops against the white of the end zones. The field is well-maintained and provides a great surface for the players to compete on.
Baltimore Ravens – M&T Bank Stadium
The Baltimore Ravens home stadium, M&T Bank Stadium, does indeed have real grass. You’ll find this state-of-the-art facility located in downtown Baltimore. It’s easily accessible via public transportation and has a capacity of 71,008 fans.
New England Patriots – Gillette Stadium
The New England Patriots play their home games on natural grass at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts. The field is made up of a blend of Kentucky bluegrass and rye grass, and is irrigated with recycled water.
San Francisco 49ers – Levi’s Stadium
The San Francisco 49ers play their home games at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California. The stadium opened in 2014 and has a natural grass field.
Philadelphia Eagles – Lincoln Financial Field
Lincoln Financial Field, home of the Philadelphia Eagles, is one of only two stadiums in the NFL with a grass field and no dome. The other is Soldier Field, home of the Chicago Bears.
Pittsburgh Steelers – Heinz Field
Heinz Field, home of the Pittsburgh Steelers, is one of the few remaining stadiums in the NFL to have real grass. The stadium, which opened in 2001, features a natural grass playing surface that was installed by Mid-Atlantic Sod.
Minnesota Vikings – U.S. Bank Stadium
U.S. Bank Stadium is home to the Minnesota Vikings and is one of the newest stadiums in the NFL, opening in 2016. The stadium has a retractable roof, which is a first for an NFL stadium, and a fixed glass window on one side of the stadium. The grass field is made up of 24 trays that each weigh 800 pounds and are watered by an underground irrigation system.
Los Angeles Rams – Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum
The Los Angeles Rams play their home games at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, which is located in Los Angeles, California. The Coliseum is a historic venue that has been home to the Rams since the team’s inception in 1936. The stadium has a capacity of over 93,000 and is the largest stadium in the NFL. The Coliseum is also home to the USC Trojans football team. The field at the Coliseum is made of natural grass.
