As of Week 8, there are four teams who have yet to earn a victory this season: the Cincinnati Bengals, Miami Dolphins, New York Jets, and Washington Redskins. The Bengals’ struggles this season can be blamed on a number of factors. First and foremost, their offense has been abysmal. They rank dead last in the NFL in points per game (10.4), and their leading rusher is rookie Samaje Perine, who has just 386 yards on the season. Secondly, their defense has been decimated by injuries. Starting defensive tackle Geno Atkins is out for the season, and fellow lineman Michael Johnson is also sidelined indefinitely. In the secondary, cornerback Darqueze Dennard is on injured reserve, and safety George Iloka was recently suspended for one game.

With so many injuries and so little offensive firepower, it’s no surprise that the Bengals are winless through seven weeks. However, they do have a relatively easy schedule going forward, so there’s a chance they could turn things around and finish with a .500 record or better.

The Dolphins are in a similar boat to the Bengals, as they too have been decimated by injuries this season. Quarterback Ryan Tannehill missed the first five games of the year with a knee injury, and when he finally returned in Week 6 he wasn’t 100% healthy. As a result, he was ineffective in Miami’s 38-7 loss to the Houston Texans. The Dolphins’ offense hasn’t been good even when Tannehill has been under center; they rank 28th in points per game (17.1).

On top of all that, the Dolphins have had to deal with several off-field distractions this season. Starting running back Jay Ajayi was traded to the Philadelphia Eagles midseason after reportedly falling out of favor with head coach Adam Gase due to his attitude and work ethic issues. Additionally, Wide receiver Jarvis Landry is in the midst of a contract dispute with the team and has been rumored to be on the trade block for several weeks now. With all of these distractions swirling around, it’s no wonder that Miami has struggled mightily this season.
