Which NFL Team Never Won the Super Bowl?

The Buffalo Bills are the only team to have never won the Super Bowl. They have made it to the big game four times, but have lost all four times.

The Cleveland Browns

The Cleveland Browns are a professional American football team based in Cleveland, Ohio. The Browns compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member club of the American Football Conference (AFC) North division. They have yet to make it to a Super Bowl, and are currently the only team in the NFL to have never done so.

The team’s history

The Browns began play in the All-America Football Conference (AAFC) in 1946. The Browns won each of the AAFC’s four championship games before joining the National Football League (NFL) after the 1949 season. From 1965 to 1995, they made the playoffs 14 times, but never advanced further than the Divisional Round. In 1995, owner Art Modell announced plans to move the team to Baltimore, which occurred in 1996. The Browns returned as a 1999 expansion team, and reached the playoffs four times between 1999 and 2002, including a loss in their only appearance in a Conference Championship game.

Since resuming play in 1999, the Browns have struggled to find success on the field, going through a number of head coaches and starting quarterbacks. They have had only two winning seasons – in 2002 and 2007 – and only one playoff appearance, which came during the 2002 season when they lost to the eventual Super Bowl champion New England Patriots in an AFC Wild Card game.

The Browns have made it to the big game twice, but have never won. They lost to the Detroit Lions in 1951, and then again to the Baltimore Colts in 1964.

The Detroit Lions

The Detroit Lions have never won a Super Bowl. They’ve been to the big game a total of four times, but they’ve never been able to get the job done. In fact, they’ve only won a single playoff game since 1957. That’s a pretty dismal record for a team that’s been around for over 90 years.

The team’s history

Before the Lions were the Lions, they were actually known as the Portsmouth Spartans. The team was based in Portsmouth, Ohio and it was founded in 1929. The team only played for a total of 3 seasons before it was bought by George A. Richards and he then moved the team to Detroit in 1934. From 1934 to 1957, the team was known as the Detroit Lions. In 1958, the team finally changed its name to what it is now currently known as, which is just “the Lions”.

The Lions have not won an NFL Championship since 1957 and they have only been to the Super Bowl a total of 2 times, with both of those appearances coming in recent years. In both 2002 and again in 2016, the Lions made it to the Super Bowl but lost both times. As of right now, the Lions are still considered to be one of the most cursed teams in all of sports.

The Detroit Lions are a professional American football team based in Detroit, Michigan. They are members of the National Football League (NFL) as part of the NFC North division. The Lions have won four NFL Championships, tied for ninth most all-time, and are the only NFL team to have gone 0–16 in a season.

The Lions have made a total of six appearances in the Super Bowl:
* Super Bowl XVI: Jan. 24, 1982 – lost to the San Francisco 49ers, 26-21
* Super Bowl XVIII: Jan. 22, 1984 – lost to the Los Angeles Raiders, 38-9
* Super Bowl XXXVII: Jan. 26, 2003 – lost to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, 48-21
* Super Bowl XL: Feb. 5, 2006 – lost to the Pittsburgh Steelers, 21-10

The franchise has compiled a record of 0–5 in those appearances.

The Houston Texans

The Houston Texans are a professional American football team based in Houston, Texas. The Texans compete in the National Football League as a member club of the American Football Conference South division. The team never won the Super Bowl.

The Texans first played in 2002 as an expansion team after the NFL granted them the 28th franchise in 2000 to replace the Houston Oilers, which relocated to Nashville, Tennessee and became the Tennessee Titans. The team’s majority owner is Cal McNair; they are also led by head coach Bill O’Brien.

In their 16 seasons of play, the Texans have compiled a win–loss record of 140–154 (.476), making them the 27th most successful NFL franchise to date but only the 21st most successful during their time in existence.

In 2002, the Texans made their first appearance in the NFL playoffs, which was also their inaugural season. In that same year, they won their first AFC championship but lost to the eventual Super Bowl champion, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, in Super Bowl XXXVII. Despite having never won a playoff game before 2002, and not winning again until 2011–a drought of nine seasons–the Texans made three more consecutive appearances from 2011 to 2016. They have never advanced beyond Divisional Round Playoff games.
