Which NFL Teams Have Never Won the Super Bowl?
The Super Bowl is the biggest stage in American football. Every year, fans of the game tune in to see which team will be crowned champion.
But not every team has had the opportunity to play on the big stage. In fact, there are a number of NFL teams that have never won a Super Bowl.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are a professional American football team based in Tampa, Florida. The Buccaneers compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member club of the league’s National Football Conference (NFC) South division. The club plays its home games at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa.
The Buccaneers joined the NFL in 1976 as an expansion team, along with the Seattle Seahawks. They played their first season in the American Football Conference (AFC) West division as part of an agreement between the two new franchises and the then-current owners of the Atlanta Falcons, who were also members of that division. In 2002, the Buccaneers left the AFC to join three other former NFC West teams — the Seahawks, Carolina Panthers, and San Francisco 49ers — in forming the NFC South.
The team is owned by the Glazer family and coached by Bruce Arians. They are worth an estimated $2.7 billion, according to Forbes magazine in 2019, which makes them one of the richest teams in the NFL. They have won one Super Bowl championship since joining the NFL, defeating the Oakland Raiders 48–21 during Super Bowl XXXVII on January 26, 2003 at Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego; this was also their first appearance in a Super Bowl since joining the league. Since then they have made it to two more Super Bowls,Super Bowl XXXVIII and most recently Super BowL LV, but lost both times to their division rivals: first to New England Patriots 32-29 during Super Bowl XXXVIII and then again to Patrick Mahomes and company 31-9 during Super bowl LV
The Cleveland Browns
The Browns have never won the Super Bowl, despite appearing in three of them. They lost to the Green Bay Packers in the first two Super Bowls and to the Denver Broncos in 1987.
The Detroit Lions
The Detroit Lions have never won the Super Bowl. They have been to the big game three times, but they have never won it. The last time they were in the Super Bowl was in 1992 when they lost to the Washington Redskins.
The Houston Texans
The Houston Texans are a professional American football team based in Houston, Texas. The Texans compete in the National Football League as a member club of the American Football Conference South division. The team plays its home games at NRG Stadium.
The Texans were established in 2002 as the Houston Texans expansion team, and played their first game in 2003 as an entity in the NFL. In their first two seasons, the franchise incurred losses of $126 million. After posting a 9–7 record in 2007, head coach Gary Kubiak led the team to an AFC South division championship and their first playoff appearance in franchise history. The Texans went on to lose to the eventual AFC champion New England Patriots in the divisional round. Since then, the franchise has compiled a win–loss record of 103–120 (.464), making them one of only four current NFL teams that have never appeared in a Super Bowl, along with the Detroit Lions, Jacksonville Jaguars and Cleveland Browns.
