Which NFL Teams Have Real Grass?

It’s a question that’s been debated for years: which NFL teams have real grass, and which ones have artificial turf? We did some digging and found out the answer for each team.

Green Bay Packers

The Green Bay Packers are the only team in the NFL that has real grass at their stadium. The Packers have used a natural grass playing surface at Lambeau Field since 1957. The team switched to artificial turf in 1969 and then back to grass in 1986.

The Packers have had natural grass at Lambeau Field since 1957, with a few artificial Turf opportunities in the 1970s. The original grass at Lambeau was Kentucky bluegrass, but due to wear and tear, it was replaced in 1969 with a new hybrid grass called Tifway. In 1986, the playing surface was once again replaced, this time with Astroturf. In 1995, the Packers returned to natural grass, and have been using a combination of Kentucky bluegrass and perennial ryegrass ever since.

The team switched to FieldTurf in 2006, but reverted back to grass in 2015.

Currently, there are 17 NFL teams playing on natural grass and 13 teams playing on artificial turf. The Green Bay Packers are one of the teams that have made the switch back to natural grass. The team switched to FieldTurf in 2006, but reverted back to grass in 2015.

Baltimore Ravens

The Baltimore Ravens are one of the few NFL teams that still play their home games on real grass. The benefits of playing on grass are well documented, and the team has decided that the benefits outweigh the costs. The team has a state-of-the-art drainage system that keeps the field in perfect condition, and the team’s groundskeepers are some of the best in the business.

The Ravens have had natural grass at M&T Bank Stadium since it opened in 1998.

The Ravens have had natural grass at M&T Bank Stadium since it opened in 1998. Before that, the team played its home games at Memorial Stadium on artificial turf. When the Ravens decided to switch to grass, they looked at a number of different varieties before settling on Tifway 419 Bermuda grass.

The team has been very happy with the results and has been able to keep the field in good condition despite the heavy usage it gets during both the NFL season and college football season. In addition to being used for Ravens games, M&T Bank Stadium is also home to the Army-Navy game and the Maryland Terrapins football team.

The team considered switching to FieldTurf in 2009, but decided against it.

The Ravens compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member club of the American Football Conference (AFC) North division. The team plays its home games at M&T Bank Stadium and is headquartered in Owings Mills.

The Ravens were established in 1996, when Art Modell, who was then the owner of the Cleveland Browns, announced plans to relocate the franchise to Baltimore. As part of a settlement between Modell, the city of Cleveland, and the NFL, Modell was required to leave the Browns’ name and colors in Cleveland for a replacement franchise that would be established by an expansion draft in 1999. The Ravens chose their name to honor Edgar Allan Poe’s poem “The Raven”.

Cincinnati Bengals

The Cincinnati Bengals are an American football team based in Cincinnati, Ohio. They are members of the National Football League (NFL) as a part of the AFC North division. The Bengals play their home games at Paul Brown Stadium. The Bengals were founded in 1966 as a member of the American Football League (AFL) by former Cleveland Browns head coach Paul Brown.

The Bengals have had natural grass at Paul Brown Stadium since it opened in 2000.

The type of grass the Bengals have at their stadium is Kentucky bluegrass, which is common in cold climates like Cincinnati. It can be difficult to maintain in the heat of summer, so the grounds crew takes extra care to make sure it stays healthy. The field can also be a little slippery when it’s wet, so players have to be careful not to slip and hurt themselves.

The team considered switching to FieldTurf in 2007, but decided against it.

Head coach Marvin Lewis said in May 2019 that the Bengals were still committed to keeping Paul Brown Stadium grass. “We’ve had some good years on grass here,” Lewis said. “It’s a good playing surface.”

So while the stadium itself may not have real grass, the team is still keeping things old-fashioned on the field.

Buffalo Bills

The Bills have one of the best home-field advantages in the NFL, thanks in large part to their fans. But they also have something else going for them: Real grass. The playing surface at Ralph Wilson Stadium is made up of Tifway 419 Bermuda grass, which is known for its durability.

Chicago Bears

The Chicago Bears are one of the few NFL teams that still have real grass at their home stadium. This can be seen as a positive or negative, depending on your perspective. Some people feel that real grass is more natural and provides a better playing surface. Others believe that artificial turf is more durable and consistent.
