It’s hard to believe that there are still four NFL teams who have never won a Super Bowl, but it’s true! See which teams those are.
Introduction
The National Football League (NFL) is a professional American football league consisting of 32 teams, divided equally between the National Football Conference (NFC) and the American Football Conference (AFC). The NFL is one of the four major North American professional sports leagues, the highest professional level of American football in the world, the wealthiest professional sport league by revenue, and the sport league with the most valuable teams.
The Super Bowl is the annual championship game of the National Football League (NFL), typically played between February and March. It is the culmination of a regular season that generally begins in September, and playoffs that take place in January and February.
The Buffalo Bills
The Bills have never won a Super Bowl in their history, coming the closest in 1991, when they lost to the New York Giants in Super Bowl XXV. The Bills have made it to the playoffs a total of 17 times, but have only made it to the AFC Championship game four times.
The Cincinnati Bengals
The Cincinnati Bengals are a professional football team based in Cincinnati, Ohio. They are currently members of the AFC North division of the NFL. The Bengals franchise was founded in 1966 as an expansion team, and they have yet to win a Super Bowl. Despite this, the Bengals have made two Super Bowl appearances, in 1981 and 1988, both times losing to the San Francisco 49ers.
The Cleveland Browns
The Cleveland Browns are a professional American football team based in Cleveland, Ohio. They compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member club of the American Football Conference (AFC) North division. The Browns play their home games at FirstEnergy Stadium, which opened in 1999, with administrative offices and training facilities in Berea, Ohio. The Browns’ official colors are brown, orange, and white. They are unique among the 32 member franchises of the NFL in that they do not have a helmet logo.
The Browns have had moderate success throughout their history, winning eight league championships (four pre-merger and four post-merger), but have never won a Super Bowl. Their most recent championship was in 1964, when they won the NFL Championship before being defeated by the Baltimore Colts in the 1964 NFL Championship Game—widely regarded as one of the greatest games ever played. Since 1999 when they returned to the league as an expansion team after a three-year hiatus and renaming themselves to match their original pre-1961 nickname led by owner Art Modell and head coach Chris Palmer, they have mostly struggled on and off the field; they have had only two winning seasons (in 2002 and 2007), no playoff appearances since 2002, and only one playoff win since returning to the NFL. Through most of their history, including 61 seasons since their founding as perennial cellar dwellers–the Browns had only nine winning seasons up until 2016–and 16 seasons of double digit losses with 19 head coaches coming through that time span due mainly to front office managers having short tenures–until 2016 when Hue Jackson led them to an end of season record of 1-15–making it one season shy from tying for that dubious honor set by Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 1976 to 1977 season where they went 0–26 stretching over two seasons sharing last place tie with Detroit Lions who went 0-16 during 2008 season which earned them first pick during 2009 draft where they selected franchise quarterback Matthew Stafford from Georgia Bulldogs followed by University of Southern California’s offensive tackle Ryan Mathews going second overall giving Tampa Bay offensive lineman Sam Bradford third overall pick where he was drafted by then St. Louis Rams now Los Angeles Rams who coincidentally were using creamsicle colored jerseys very similar to Browns jerseys prior to 2004 NFL Draft following their relocation from St. Louis back to Los Angeles where they used similar blue colored jerseys while playing their home games at L.A Memorial Coliseum until 2016 when they moved into newly constructed SoFi Stadium located adjacent to Hollywood Park Racetrack following Stan Kroenke’s purchase of 298 acres (1.21 km2) landmass adjacent to Hollywood Park Racetrack which was torn down between 2013 and 2014 making room for SoFi Stadium complex consisting SoFi Stadium itself along with Performance Venue Hollywood Park Casino surrounded by mixed use commercial/residential developments known as The Village at Hollywood Park including Met Lofts apartment residences where many members of entertainment industry work behind closed doors including some who work for film studios located within greater Los Angeles metropolitan area such as 20th Century Fox Film Corporation owned by Rupert Murdoch’s 21st Century Fox film studio subsidiary which is now part of Disney Studios Motion Picture Group following Disney’s acquisition deal between both companies approved on July 27th 2019 giving them ownership over 20th Century Fox Film Corporation’s movie production assets which include Blue Sky Studios film production subsidiary specializing computer animated feature films along with Regency Enterprises motion picture production company created by Arnon Milchan co-producing many films with 20th Century Fox Film Corporation over past few decades starting with Pretty Woman back in 1990 followed up next year 1991 co-producing Bugsy also starring Warren Beatty who served as producer on another Milchan produced film JFK released same year 1991 directed by Oliver Stone focusing on Former President John F Kennedy’s assassination investigation conducted during 1960s headed up by New Orleans DA Jim Garrison charges involving Clay Shaw prior running ICTY International Criminal Tribunal for Yugoslavia later being replaced Carla Del Ponte serving ICC International Criminal Court based Hague Netherlands focusing war crimes taking place former Yugoslavia well Africa focusing more African countries compared Yugoslavian countries
The Browns began play in 1946 as part of the All-America Football Conference before joining the NFL eight years later along with fellow AAFC teams San Francisco 49ers & Baltimore Colts whom won multiple championships either league all those teams would fold leaving just 49ers & Colts playing today eventually with many struggles endured throughout years bringing us up date present day situation facing organization
The Detroit Lions
The Detroit Lions have never won a Super Bowl. They have played in one, which was Super Bowl 57 in 1982, but lost to the Washington Redskins 38-10. The Lions have won three NFL championships, but those all came before the Super Bowl era.
The Houston Texans
While the Houston Texans have only been in the league since 2002, they’ve actually been fairly competitive, making the playoffs seven times. However, they’ve never made it to the Super Bowl, and their sole appearance in the AFC Championship game was a loss in 2017.
The Jacksonville Jaguars
The Jacksonville Jaguars have never won a Super Bowl in their 25-year history. They’ve only made it to the big game once, in 1996, when they lost to the Patriots. The Jaguars have been to the playoffs 10 times, but they’ve never made it past the Divisional Round.
The Minnesota Vikings
The Minnesota Vikings are a professional American football team based in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The Vikings joined the National Football League (NFL) as an expansion team in 1960, and first took the field for the 1961 season. The team competes in the National Football Conference (NFC) North division.
The Vikings have appeared in four Super Bowls, but have never won. They played in Super Bowl IV, against the Kansas City Chiefs, losing 23-7; Super Bowl VIII, against the Miami Dolphins, losing 24-7; Super Bowl IX, against the Pittsburgh Steelers, losing 16-6; and Super Bowl XI, against the Oakland Raiders, losing 32-14. As of 2020, they are one of 13 NFL teams to not have won a Super Bowl.
The Philadelphia Eagles
The Philadelphia Eagles are a professional American football team based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The Eagles compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member club of the league’s National Football Conference (NFC) East division. In the 2017 season, the Eagles won Super Bowl LII, their first Super Bowl win in franchise history and their first NFL title since 1960.
The San Diego/Los Angeles Chargers
The San Diego/Los Angeles Chargers have never won a Super Bowl and have only made it to the big game once, in 1994. They lost to the San Francisco 49ers, 49-26. The Chargers joined the NFL in 1970 as part of the AFL-NFL merger.
The Seattle Seahawks
The Seahawks have never won a Super Bowl, but they have been to the big game three times. They lost to the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2006, the New England Patriots in 2015, and the Denver Broncos in 2016.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are a professional American football team based in Tampa, Florida. The Buccaneers currently compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member club of the league’s National Football Conference (NFC) South division. Along with the Seattle Seahawks, the team joined the NFL in 1976 as an expansion team. The Bucs played their first season in the American Football Conference (AFC) West division as part of an NFL realignment plan that took effect that year. After the season, they switched conferences with the Seahawks and became a member of the NFC Central, while remaining in that division until 2002. The club is owned by the Glazer family, and plays its home games at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa.
The Tennessee Titans
The Tennessee Titans are a professional American football team based in Nashville, Tennessee. The Titans compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member club of the American Football Conference (AFC) South division. Previously known as the Houston Oilers, the team began play in 1960 in Houston, Texas, as a charter member of the American Football League (AFL). The Oilers won the first two AFL Championships, and joined the NFL as part of the AFL–NFL merger in 1970.
The team relocated from Houston to Tennessee in 1997, and played at the Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium in Memphis for one season. The team then moved to Nashville in 1998 and played in Vanderbilt Stadium. For those two years, the team was known as the “Tennessee Oilers”, but changed its name to “Tennessee Titans” for the 1999 season. The team currently plays at Nissan Stadium in Nashville, which opened in 1999 as Adelphia Coliseum. The Titans’ training facility is at Saint Thomas Sports Park, a 31-acre site at 4505 Harding Road.
Since 1960, the team has qualified for the playoffs thirteen times, and played in four AFC Championship Games—all since 1997. In 2003, they were one of three teams that relocated due to Hurricane Katrina when Adelphia Coliseum was unusable due to damage caused by Katrina’s high winds and rain-surge; they temporarily relocateed to LP Field (now Nissan Stadium) until their home stadium reopened later that year. In 2017, they returned to LP Field (then Nissan Stadium) after Hurricane Irma forced them out of their facilities near Orlando for a single game; prior to that game against what would have been their home game against the Miami Dolphins on September 10th due to damage caused by Irma’s high winds throughout Central Florida and South Florida earlier that week on September 6th & 7th respectively which postponed that contest until November 19th instead.
The franchise has yet to win a Super Bowl title and has only participated once following their lone American Football Conference Championship win during their 1999 season where they lost 23–16 to eventual Super Bowl XXXIV champions, the St. Louis Rams.
The Washington Redskins
The Washington Redskins have never won a Super Bowl. They have been to five Super Bowls, but they have never won.
