There are 31 teams in the NHL, 7 of which are based in Canada and 24 of which are based in the United States. Because of this geographic distribution, many fans find themselves rooting for local teams. However, there are several other factors that can come into play when deciding which team to support. In this article, we’ll take a look at some of the things you should consider when deciding which NHL team to root for.
Chicago Blackhawks
The Chicago Blackhawks are a professional ice hockey team based in Chicago, Illinois. They are members of the Central Division of the Western Conference of the National Hockey League (NHL). They have won six Stanley Cup championships since their founding in 1926. The Blackhawks are one of the “Original Six” NHL teams along with the Detroit Red Wings, Montreal Canadiens, Toronto Maple Leafs, Boston Bruins and New York Rangers. The Blackhawks have played their home games at the United Center since 1994. They previously played for 65 years at Chicago Stadium.
Detroit Red Wings
The Detroit Red Wings are a professional ice hockey team based in Detroit, Michigan. They are members of the Atlantic Division of the Eastern Conference of the National Hockey League (NHL) and are one of the Original Six teams of the league. The Wings played their home games at Joe Louis Arena from 1979 until 2017, after playing for 52 years in Olympia Stadium. They currently play their home games at Little Caesars Arena.
Los Angeles Kings
Even if you’re not from LA, you can still appreciate the Kings. They are the 2012 and 2014 Stanley Cup champions, and have one of the most devoted fan bases in the NHL. If you’re looking for a team to support that has a great history and a bright future, the Kings are definitely worth considering.
