Michael Jordan
Michael Jordan is widely considered to be the greatest basketball player of all time. He was a dominant force in the NBA for many years, winning six championships with the Chicago Bulls. Jordan also won two Olympic gold medals and is a member of the Basketball Hall of Fame.
Bill Russell
Boston Celtics center Bill Russell holds the record for the most NBA championships, with 11 titles during his 13-year career. He won his first championship in 1956 and his last in 1969, leading the Celtics to victorious campaigns in eight of those seasons. In total, Russell appeared in 12 NBA Finals series, more than any other player in league history.
A five-time NBA MVP and 12-time All-Star, Russell was also one of the most dominant defensive players of his era. He was named to the NBA All-Defensive First Team 10 times and led the league in rebounding four times. His long list of accomplishments also includes being named the NBA Finals MVP on two occasions and winning an Olympic gold medal as a member of the United States men’s basketball team at the 1956 Games.
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar played for 20 seasons in the NBA and is the league’s all-time leading scorer. He is a six-time NBA champion, a 19-time NBA All-Star, and was named the NBA’s Most Valuable Player six times. Abdul-Jabbar was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1995.
Magic Johnson
Magic Johnson is a retired professional basketball player who played point guard for the Los Angeles Lakers of the National Basketball Association (NBA) for thirteen seasons. After winning championships in high school and college, Johnson was selected first overall in the 1979 NBA draft by the Lakers. He won a championship and an NBA Finals Most Valuable Player Award in his rookie season, and Johnson continued to play at an All-Star level for a decade. His career achievements include three NBA MVP Awards, nine NBA Finals appearances, twelve All-Star games, and ten All-NBA First and Second Team selections. He led the league in regular-season assists four times, and is the NBA’s all-time leader in average assists per game, at 11.2.
Johnson retired abruptly in 1991 after announcing that he had tested positive for HIV, but returned to play in the 1992 All-Star game, winning the All-Star MVP Award. After protests from his fellow players, he retired again for four years, but returned in 1996 to play 32 games for the Lakers before finally retiring for good. At the time of his retirement, Johnson had won five NBA championships, been voted into nine All-Star Games (starting seven times), won three NBA MVP Awards, two Finals MVP Awards, and one regular season MVP Award. He also led the “Dream Team” to victory at the 1992 Summer Olympics.
LeBron James
LeBron James has won the most NBA Championships of any player in the league, with a total of four. He has won two championships with the Miami Heat and two with the Cleveland Cavaliers.
