It’s that time of year again! The NBA playoffs are in full swing, and we’re here to give you a rundown of which teams are still in the running.
The Eastern Conference
The Eastern Conference is made up of the following teams: the Boston Celtics, the Toronto Raptors, the Indiana Pacers, the Miami Heat, and the Philadelphia 76ers. These teams are all still in the running for the NBA championship.
The Boston Celtics
In the 2017-2018 season, the Boston Celtics made it to the Eastern Conference Finals, where they lost to the Cleveland Cavaliers. The Celtics are led by point guard Kyrie Irving, and small forward Jayson Tatum.
The Milwaukee Bucks
The Milwaukee Bucks are an American professional basketball team based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. They are part of the Central Division of the Eastern Conference in the National Basketball Association (NBA). The team was founded in 1968 as an expansion team, and plays at the Fiserv Forum. Former U.S. Senator Herb Kohl was the long-time owner of the team until April 2014, when a group led by hedge fund managers Wesley Edens and Marc Lasry purchased a majority interest in the franchise from Kohl. The current head coach is Mike Budenholzer, who took over forJason Kidd in 2018.
The Toronto Raptors
The Toronto Raptors are a Canadian professional basketball team based in Toronto, Ontario. The Raptors compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA), as a member of the league’s Eastern Conference Atlantic Division. They were established in 1995 as part of the NBA’s expansion into Canada, along with the Vancouver Grizzlies.
The Philadelphia 76ers
The Philadelphia 76ers are a professional basketball team based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. They are members of the Eastern Conference of the National Basketball Association (NBA). The team also has players from other countries who have joined the team in recent years.
The Western Conference
The Western Conference is made up of the following teams: the Golden State Warriors, the Houston Rockets, the Portland Trail Blazers, the Utah Jazz, and the Oklahoma City Thunder. These teams are all fighting for a spot in the NBA Finals.
The Golden State Warriors
The Golden State Warriors are still in the NBA playoffs. As of May 23, 2019, they are in the Western Conference Finals.
The Houston Rockets
The Houston Rockets are a professional basketball team based in Houston, Texas. The Rockets compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA), as a member of the league’s Western Conference Southwest Division. The team plays its home games at the Toyota Center, located in downtown Houston. The Rockets have won two NBA championships and four Western Conference titles. The team was established as the San Diego Rockets, an expansion team originally based in San Diego, in 1967. In 1971, the Rockets moved to Houston.
The Portland Trail Blazers
The Portland Trail Blazers are a professional basketball team based in Portland, Oregon. The Trail Blazers compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA) as a member of the league’s Western Conference Northwest Division. The team played its home games in the Memorial Coliseum before moving to Moda Center in 1995 (called the Rose Garden until 2013). The franchise entered the league as an expansion team in 1970, and has enjoyed a strong following: from 1977 through 1995, the team sold out 814 consecutive home games, the longest such streak in American major professional sports at the time (Ladies and Gentlemen, Your Seattle Seahawks currently hold the distinction). The Trail Blazers have been NBA champions twice (1977 and 1990) and Western Conference champions five times (1977, 1990, 1991, 1992, and 1999).
The Oklahoma City Thunder
The Oklahoma City Thunder are a professional basketball team based in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. The Thunder compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA) as a member of the league’s Western Conference Northwest Division. The team plays its home games at Chesapeake Energy Arena.
The Thunder were formerly known as the Seattle SuperSonics, an NBA franchise that was established in 1967. The SuperSonics moved to Oklahoma City in 2008 after a settlement was reached between the previous owners of the team and the city of Seattle. The Thunder joined the NBA for the 2008–09 season, bringing the total number of NBA teams to 30 at that time.
