The WWE Championship is the top honor that a WWE Superstar can achieve. But which WWE Belt is the highest honor?
WWE World Heavyweight Championship
The WWE World Heavyweight Championship is a world heavyweight championship created and promoted by the American professional wrestling promotion WWE on the SmackDown brand. It is one of two world titles in the WWE, alongside the WWE Universal Championship that was created for the Raw brand as a result of the 2016 WWE draft. The current champion is AJ Styles, who is in his first reign.
WWE Universal Championship
The WWE Universal Championship is the top title in WWE’s main roster. The Universal Championship was created in 2016 to be the top championship in WWE’s Raw brand. The inaugural champion was Finn Balor, who defeated Seth Rollins at SummerSlam that year.
The Universal Championship is currently held by Brock Lesnar, who defeated Braun Strowman at Crown Jewel 2018. Lesnar is also a former NCAA Division I Heavyweight Champion and UFC Heavyweight Champion.
WWE Intercontinental Championship
The WWE Intercontinental Championship is the second-highest championship in WWE, behind only the WWE Universal Championship. It is a secondary title for Raw and SmackDown, and is also defended on Main Event and at live events. The current champion is Big E, who is in his second reign.
The Intercontinental Championship was created in 1979 and has been held by some of WWE’s biggest names, including Bret “Hitman” Hart, Shawn Michaels, The Rock, Stone Cold Steve Austin, Triple H, andEdge. It has also been held by tag teams such as The British Bulldog and Owen Hart, The Honky Tonk Man and Greg Valentine, Curt Hawkins and Zack Ryder, and The Miz and John Morrison.
WWE United States Championship
The WWE United States Championship is a professional wrestling championship promoted by the American professional wrestling promotion WWE. The title is one of two secondary championships for WWE’s main roster, along with the WWE Intercontinental Championship.
The title was created as the WWF North American Heavyweight Championship on December 15, 1986, and was Uniroyal Tire Company’s replacement for its previous sponsorship of the WWF World Tag Team Championship. It eventually became known as the WWF United States Championship in January 1991. The title was deactivated in 2001 and reactivated in 2003 as a secondary title referred to as the WWE United States Championship till its deactivation again in 2010. It was then elevated to primary status in July 2016 following WWE’s brand extension, where it became exclusive to SmackDown Live.
Since its reintroduction, the title has undergone several name changes due to WWE’s ever-changing policies and management; it was firstly referred to as the United States Championship once again before becoming exclusive to Raw with a different name change in 2017 due to that brand also having a world championship called the Universal Championship. However, following yet another change in management and policy, it became simply known as the United States Championship once more in 2019 while still being exclusive to Raw; this makes it one of only two regional/territorial championships currently active on WWE’s main roster (along with the NXT UK Women’s Championship). As a result of this latest name change, it is now also one of only three active championships that have remained unchanged since their original creation (along with the NXT North American and NXT Tag Team Championships).
WWE Tag Team Championship
The WWE Tag Team Championship is a professional wrestling world tag team championship contested in WWE. It is the second oldest championship in the company, behind the WWE Championship. The current champions are The Usos, who are in their second reign as a team.
