He had a stellar college career with the Purdue Boilermakers, setting numerous NCAA records, and was chosen by the San Diego Chargers with the first pick in the second round of the 2001 NFL Draft. In 2006, he suffered a dislocation of his right shoulder in a game against the Denver Broncos, missing the remainder of that season. The injury raised concerns about his long-term prospects, but Brees worked diligently to rehabilitate his shoulder and continued to play at a high level thereafter. He joined the Saints in free agency in 2006 and helped lead them to their first-ever Super Bowl victory in 2010. In 2013, he was named the NFL’s Most Valuable Player (MVP) after setting an NFL single-season record for passing yards.
