The 2021 NFL Hall of Fame induction class will include 15 modern-era players, one senior player, one coach, and two contributors. The class will be formally inducted during Canton, Ohio’s Enshrinement Week in early August.
The headliners for the 2021 Hall of Fame class are perennial All-Pros Peyton Manning and Calvin Johnson. Manning is arguably the greatest quarterback of all time, while Johnson is widely considered the best receiver of his generation. Both players retired after stellar careers that included multiple MVP awards and Super Bowl wins.
Joining them in the Hall of Fame class are Tampa Bay Buccaneers linebacker Derrick Brooks, Seattle Seahawks safety Kenny Easley, Green Bay Packers defensive end Reggie White, Buffalo Bills running back Thurman Thomas, Minnesota Vikings offensive tackle Randall McDaniel, Pittsburgh Steelers center Dermontti Dawson, Denver Broncos owner Pat Bowlen, Dallas Cowboys personnel executive Gil Brandt, and Washington Redskins head coach Joe Gibbs.
The senior inductee for the 2021 class is former Los Angeles Rams offensive lineman Tom Mack, who was a first-team All-Pro seven times during his 13-year career. Mack was also a member of the Rams’ famed “Fearsome Foursome” defensive line that helped Los Angeles win an NFL Championship in 1951.
This year’s class of Pro Football Hall of Fame inductees is loaded with first-ballot legends. Here’s a look at the eight men who will be enshrined in Canton this August.
Peyton Manning: one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time. A five-time NFL MVP and two-time Super Bowl champion, Manning holds numerous NFL records, including most passing yards (71,940) and touchdowns (539).
Calvin Johnson: one of the most physically gifted wide receivers in NFL history. A six-time Pro Bowler and three-time first-team All-Pro, Johnson retired as the Lions’ all-time leader in catches (731), yards (11,619), and touchdowns (83).
Charles Woodson: a nine-time Pro Bowler and four-time first-team All-Pro, Woodson is widely considered one of the greatest defensive players of his generation. He was named the Defensive Player of the Year in 2009, and is the only player in NFL history with at least 50 interceptions and 20 sacks.
Ed Reed: one of the greatest safeties in NFL history. A nine-time Pro Bowler and five-time first-team All-Pro, Reed was named the Defensive Player of the Year in 2004 and is second all time in interceptions (64).
Tony Boselli: considered by many to be the best left tackle of his generation, Boselli was a five-time Pro Bowler and three-time first-team All-Pro during his seven seasons with the Jaguars. He was inducted into the Jaguars’ Ring of Honor in 2006.
Jerry Rice: widely considered to be the greatest wide receiver in NFL history. A three-time Super Bowl champion and 13-time Pro Bowler, Rice holds numerous NFL records, including most catches (1,549), yards (22,895), and touchdowns (197).
Tim Brown: a nine-time Pro Bowler and three time first team All Pro selection, Brown is considered one of the greatest wide receivers of his generation. He retired as the Raiders’ all time leader in catches (1,094), yards (14,934), and touchdowns (100).
The 2021 class for the Pro Football Hall of Fame was announced on February 6, 2021. The class includes five modern-era players, one seniors player, and one coach. The modern-era players are Drew Pearson, Jerry Rice, John Lynch, Steve Atwater, and Jacoby Stevens. Rice and Atwater were first-time eligible candidates and were voted in unanimously. The modern-era finalists are: wide receiver Marvin Harrison, linebacker Jared Allen, offensive lineman Alan Faneca, linebacker Sam Mills, linebacker Zach Thomas and offensive lineman Fred Taylor.
Harrison is a finalist for the Hall of Fame for the third time. He played all 16 of his NFL seasons with the Indianapolis Colts, catching 1,102 passes for 14,580 yards and 128 touchdowns. He was a first-team All-Pro selection three times (1999-2001) and was named to eight Pro Bowls.
Allen is a finalist for the Hall of Fame for the second time. He played 12 seasons in the NFL with the Kansas City Chiefs, Minnesota Vikings, Chicago Bears and Carolina Panthers. He recorded 136 sacks in his career, which ranks 10th all-time. He was named first-team All-Pro four times (2007-2010) and was named to five Pro Bowls.
Faneca is a finalist for the Hall of Fame for the fifth time. He played 13 seasons in the NFL with the Pittsburgh Steelers and New York Jets. He was a nine-time Pro Bowler and a six-time first-team All-Pro selection. He was also named to the NFL’s All-Decade Team of the 2000s.
Mills is a finalist for the Hall of Fame for the sixth time. He played 12 seasons in the NFL with the New Orleans Saints and Carolina Panthers. He was a five-time Pro Bowler and was named first-team All-Pro three times (1989, 1991, 1994). Mills also won Defensive Rookie of the Year in 1988 and Defensive Player of the Year in 1998.
