In 2018 he became just the sixth player to attain 80,000 career passing yards. As well as his on field accomplishments he maintains a high profile off field due largely to his philanthropic efforts through The Drew Brees Dream Foundation which he created with his wife Brittany Brees following Hurricane Katrina in 2005 to improve access to education for disadvantaged youth..
