The Guardians are a professional baseball team based in Charlotte, North Carolina. The team is a member of the International League, and plays its home games at BB&T Ballpark.

The History of the Guardians

The Guardians are a baseball team located in Hartford, Connecticut. They are a member of the Eastern League and play their home games at Dunkin’ Donuts Park. The Guardians were founded in 2016 and are the Double-A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants.

The team’s name, Hartford Guardians, was announced on November 15, 2016. The name and logo were selected through a “Name the Team” contest that received over 6,000 entries. The winning name and logo were both submitted by Guardian fans.

The Hartford Yard Goats, a Double-A affiliate of the Colorado Rockies, were originally supposed to relocate to Hartford and play in Dunkin’ Donuts Park in 2016; however, construction delays pushed back their inaugural season to 2017. As a result, the Connecticut Defenders (a previous minor league baseball team based in Norwich, Connecticut) agreed to move to Richmond, Virginia for one season while waiting for Dunkin’ Donuts Park to be completed.

The Guardians began their inaugural season on April 6th, 2017 with a game against the Reading Fightin Phils. They defeated the Fightin Phils 5-2 in front of a sellout crowd of 9,340 people.

The Team’s Lineup

The Guardians are a baseball team that competes in the National League. The team is made up of pitchers, catchers, infielders, and outfielders. The team’s lineup changes depending on who is playing which position. The team’s batting order is also different depending on the game situation.

Pitching

Pitching is the act of throwing a baseball toward the catcher with the intent of getting the batter out. A pitcher’s primary job is to get batters out. A pitcher accomplishes this by throwing pitches that result in either strikeouts, walks, or balls hit into play.

The Guardians have a deep and experienced pitching staff, led by ace starter Chris Sale. The team also has two young up-and-comers who could be breakout stars in 2021, in lefty Dylan Cease and right-hander Michael Kopech.

Catching

The Guardians’ primary catcher is Korean-born Chunichi Dragons legend Byung-ho Park. He is a powerful hitter with good discipline, and will provide a solid presence in the middle of the lineup. Serving as his backup is Kyle Higashioka, who was acquired from the Yankees in the offseason. Higashioka is a good defensive catcher with some pop in his bat, and he will be a valuable asset to the team.

Infield

The Guardians have a strong team this year, with many All-Star caliber players. Here is a look at the infielders that will be taking the field for the Guardians this season.

-catcher: Wilson Ramos
-first baseman: Freddie Freeman
-second baseman: Ozzie Albies
-third baseman: Josh Donaldson
-shortstop: Dansby Swanson

Outfield

The outfield is one of the three defensive positions in baseball, occupying the area between the infielders and the outfield fence. These defenders are the left fielder, the center fielder, and the right fielder. Outfielders are responsible for catching fly balls hit by the batter and preventing runners from advancing around the bases.

The left fielder is typically stationed near the left-field foul line, in between home plate and first base. The left fielder must be able to catch balls hit close to the fence as well as those hit deep into the outfield. He or she must also have a strong arm to throw out runners who try to advance to second or third base on a hit.

The center fielder is stationed in center field, between the left and right fielders. The center fielder must have good speed and be able to cover a lot of ground. He or she must also be able to catch balls hit deep into the outfield.

The right fielder is stationed near the right-field foul line, in between home plate and first base. The right fielder must have a strong arm to throw out runners who try to advance on a hit. He or she must also be able to catch balls hit close to the fence as well as those hit deep into the outfield.
