The team’s history

The Warriors were founded in 1946 as the Philadelphia Warriors, a charter member of the Basketball Association of America (BBA). They were owned by Peter A. Tyrell, who also owned the Philadelphia Rockets of the American Hockey League. Tyrell hired Eddie Gottlieb, a longtime basketball promoter in the Philadelphia area, as coach and general manager; Gottlieb was one of the professional basketball’s first true coaches, a trainer who also served as his own scout and deal-maker. The owners named the team after an earlier team in Philadelphia of the same name. Led by early scoring sensation Joe Fulks, the team won the championship in the league’s inaugural 1946–47 season by defeating the Chicago Stags, four games to one.

Fulks was named the league’s MVP that season. After winning 28 games in its second season, 16 by seven or more points, Gottlieb bought three prospects from another fellow owner for what would be one of the largest trades in professional basketball history at that time.

The team’s history

The Toronto Raptors joined the NBA as an expansion team in 1995, along with the Vancouver Grizzlies. In 2001, the two teams moved to Memphis and Dallas, respectively, while the NBA welcomed in its 30th franchise, the New Orleans Hornets. Since then, the Raptors have been the only Canadian team in the NBA.

The Raptors had a rough start in their first few years in the league, winning just 24 games in their inaugural season. But things began to look up when they drafted Tracy McGrady in 1997. McGrady quickly became one of the league’s premier scorers, and he helped lead the Raptors to their first playoff appearance in 2000.

In 2003, the Raptors won their first division title, and they made it to the Eastern Conference Finals for the first time in franchise history. Unfortunately, they were swept by the eventual champion Detroit Pistons. The following year, they lost McGrady to free agency but still managed to win their second division title.

In 2006, Toronto made a big splash by acquiring All-Star power forward Chris Bosh. Bosh teamed up with rising star guard Jose Calderon to form a formidable duo that led the Raptors to five consecutive playoff appearances. But they were never able to get over the hump and make it to the NBA Finals.

After Bosh left for Miami in 2010, Toronto went through a bit of a rebuilding period. They finally returned to prominence in 2014 by acquiring All-Star guard Kyle Lowry and power forward Serge Ibaka. With Lowry and Ibaka leading the way,the Raptors won five straight Atlantic Division titles from 2014-2018.

In 2018, Toronto made another big move by acquiring small forward Kawhi Leonard from San Antonio. Leonard had just come off of leading the Spurs to an NBA title, and he was looking to do the same with his new team.

The Raptors got off to a slow start but turned things around after head coach Dwane Casey was fired and replaced by assistant Nick Nurse midway through the season. With Leonard leadingthe way, Toronto won a franchise-record 59 games en route to their sixth division title in seven years.

In 2019 playoffs Toronto finally broke through and made it allthe wayto NBA Finals where they faced off against Golden State Warriors dynasty that has won 3 championships in 4 years led by Steph Curry , Kevin Durant , Klay Thompson , Draymond Green . After being down 0-2 at home many people wrote off raptors but behind great play of Kawhi Leonard they manage win next 4 games including 2 on road trip back home Leonard would be named Finals MVP unanimously after averaging 28 points per game , 9 rebounds per game , 4 assists per game .
