Who Are The Remaining Teams In The NFL Playoffs?

The NFL playoffs are down to the final four teams. Who are the remaining teams in the hunt for the Lombardi Trophy?

The AFC

There are four teams remaining in the AFC playoffs: the Kansas City Chiefs, the New England Patriots, the Los Angeles Chargers, and the Indianapolis Colts. The Chiefs and Patriots have already clinched their respective divisional titles, while the Chargers and Colts are the Wild Card teams.

The New England Patriots

The New England Patriots are a professional American football team based in the Greater Boston region. The Patriots compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member club of the league’s American Football Conference (AFC) East division. The team plays its home games at Gillette Stadium in the town of Foxborough, Massachusetts, which is located 28 miles (45 km) southwest of downtown Boston.

The Patriots are also headquartered at Gillette Stadium. An original member of the American Football League (AFL), the Patriots joined the NFL in the AFL–NFL merger in 1970. The team changed its name from the original Boston Patriots after relocating to Foxborough in 1971. The franchise appeared in Super Bowls XXXI,XXXII,XXXIII, XXXIX, XLIX, LI, LIII; and won Super Bowls XXVI, XXXVIII, and XXXIX. They have appeared in 15 AFC Championship Games (12 times since 2001), winning 11 of them (all but one since 2001).

The Pittsburgh Steelers

The Pittsburgh Steelers are a professional American football team based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The Steelers compete in the National Football League (NFL), as a member club of the league’s American Football Conference (AFC) North division. Founded in 1933, the Steelers are the oldest franchise in the AFC.

The Jacksonville Jaguars

The Jacksonville Jaguars are one of the remaining teams in the NFL playoffs. The Jaguars have a strong defense and an explosive offense. The Jaguars are led by quarterback Blake Bortles and running back Leonard Fournette. The Jaguars will play the New England Patriots in the AFC Championship game.

The Kansas City Chiefs

The Kansas City Chiefs are a professional American football team based in Kansas City, Missouri. The Chiefs compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member club of the league’s American Football Conference (AFC) West division. The team was founded in 1960 as the Dallas Texans by businessman Lamar Hunt and was a charter member of the American Football League (AFL). In 1963, the team relocated to Kansas City and assumed their current name. The Chiefs joined the NFL as a result of the merger in 1970. The team is valued at just over $2 billion. They are also the only franchise to have appeared in the Super Bowl while having never played in a Conference Championship game, appearing in Super Bowls IV and LIV.

The NFC

The National Football Conference (NFC) is one of the two conferences of the National Football League (NFL), the highest professional level of American football in the world. The American Football Conference (AFC) is the other. This article details the current teams in the NFC.

The Philadelphia Eagles

The Philadelphia Eagles are a professional American football team based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The Eagles compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member club of the league’s National Football Conference (NFC) East division. They are Super Bowl LII champions, having won their first Super Bowl championship in 2018.

The Minnesota Vikings

The Minnesota Vikings are a professional American football team based in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The Vikings joined the National Football League (NFL) as an expansion team in 1960, and first took the field for the 1961 season. The team competes in the National Football Conference (NFC) North division.

The New Orleans Saints

The New Orleans Saints are a professional American football team based in New Orleans, Louisiana. The Saints currently compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member club of the league’s National Football Conference (NFC) South division. The Saints were founded by John W. Mecom Jr., David Dixon, and the city of New Orleans on November 1, 1966. The franchise began play in Tulane Stadium in 1967.

The name “Saints” is an allusion to November 1 being All Saints Day in the Catholic faith, or, more specifically, to the patron saint of New Orleans, Saint Louis IX of France. Consequently, the team’s official mascot is a Christian cross with a halo representing Saint Louis. They are one of only two NFL teams to score on their opening drive nine times out of ten times they possess the ball first (the other being the Cleveland Browns).

The Los Angeles Rams

The Rams are a professional American football team based in the Los Angeles metropolitan area. The Rams compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member club of the league’s National Football Conference (NFC) West division. The Los Angeles Rams franchise was founded in 1936 as the Cincinnati Reds, and was a charter member of the second American Football League (AFL). In 1946, the franchise moved to Los Angeles. The Rams franchise remained in the metro area until 1994, when they moved to Anaheim Stadium. The move was made following owner Georgia Frontiere’s death; Frontiere had intended to build a new stadium in Inglewood, California.

The Rams franchise returned to Los Angeles in 2016, relocating from St. Louis, Missouri. The club played their home games at Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum from 2016 until 2019 when they moved to SoFi Stadium in Inglewood.
